I believe it’s just easyJet’s 23rd airport in the UK they might serve, not set up a base. I’m sure EMA/CWL could be in line for an easyJet service to GVA during the winter?why would Easyjet want to start a base for at East Midlands, when they currenty have no flights there, and are expanding just down the road? It won't be East Midlands, most likely Newcastle or Leeds/Bradford, Cardiff is more likely than EMA.
I don't think a base was suggested but a new non based route instead. I think the issue with reduced frequency is people will just turn elsewhere to get the flight on the days they want. The one benefit which we’ve seen with Logan’s is that using a larger aircraft can bring the cost of a ticket down. With all that said I think frequency is more important than size especially when it comes to enticing people to fly from Cardiff - provided the price isn’t massively more than a comparable route at another airport.Should the focus for Cardiff for route development be on aircraft size rather than frequency for routes? Especially routes like Amsterdam, Paris, Dublin, Edinburgh etc. that might have more restrictions.
Should the airport look to reward airlines in some way for the use of bigger more fuel efficient aircraft. Ie 737MAX8200 for Ryanair routes, A320neo for Vueling, 737 MAX8 for TUI, ATR72 for Loganair, E195 E2 for KLM.

I suppose it depends on whether you think you can get the airline to add more frequency to a route. Loganair with Edinburgh could be an example there and KLM with Amsterdam. With Vueling it would be a case of guaranteeing a more environmentally friendly aircraft same with other routes with the ATR72, MAX8 and E195 E2.Vueling - A320neo only carries 6 more passengers than A320.
But then how do you get airlines to grow on routes without some sort of incentive and it doesn't have to be a cash one. There's no doubting CWL is a struggling airport but if it can't grow the passengers on routes it's going to continue in that way even if it grows the non passenger side of the business.It shouldn't be high on the priorities for a financially struggling airport to be paying extra for though as there would be very little gain of revenue and passenger numbers.

Maybe i'm being pessimistic but I don't see those routes ever getting back to those sort of frequencies not at least for a very long time. Edinburgh seems to be a struggle just to get to daily, Paris is gone as a route and uncertain when or if it'll return and who will operate it and KLM cutting the overnight from the standard schedule is worrying though of course a 3rd daily flight could be introduced without it being a night stopper.I Think Frequency/timings is the key,especially for hubs. eg..20 years ago KLM were in 4 times per day with a mix of Fokker 70 and Fokker 100s,EDI was twice daily with BMI on B.733,CDG twice daily with Air Wales AT45.
Considering that the Newcastle base has been announced i wonder if we could see this rumour get announced soon?SeanM is teasing that Easyjet are going to launch their 23rd UK airport. I know there's more chance of hell freezing over than it being Cardiff but I can't just not hope it will be!
Most likely but we can always hope!As far as easyJet are concerned, I think that they believe that Bristol serves the needs of South Wales.
So I saw this too. When I did a bit more digging there were other positions including cabin crew advertised for easyJet at Cardiff. The only issue is when you clicked through they go to a dead link.Although it's highly likely it's fake there's job positions posted online for an Easyjet station manager at Cardiff Airport.
It's a certainty it's a fake posting but I thought it was worth mentioning.
