Inclusive Tour - General Thread

It's a really crappy situation we're in. It's bad enough with the threat of terrorism without everything else that's been going on.

The Bank Rate is likely to be further reduced from the 05.% it's been at seemingly for ever. That would normally have a weakening effect on the GB pound. It might give some sort of boost to business, industry and the UK stock market, at least for a short while, but it will hit savers still more meaning there will be less spare money to go around on such things as holidays.

According to the newspaper report at the above link, Low Cost was not a member of the ATOL scheme which guarantees that people paying money for package holidays will get their money back if the firm goes bust.

Furthermore, Low Cost admitted they hadn't paid for the accommodation of tens of thousands of people who have already booked and paid for package holidays, so the holiday makers will have to pay again if they want to go and those already on holiday will have to pay the hotel for the accommodation themselves and, hopefully, claim it back through holiday insurance or through the administrators. I doubt whether there will be much coming from the administrators in such circumstances and it may be that not all travel insurance will cover such an eventuality.

The above is why I will only book packages through the big operators such as Thomson, Thomas Cook, Jet2 holidays or Monarch.

I just don't trust these pure online agents for traditional packages, half of them are gone quicker than a flash and most don't offer protections.

As far as I am concerned, you don't book a holiday with a company that hasn't an ATOL number - no matter how cheap it is.

That's a very good point and I personally always follow that rule when booking flights or holidays. It must be ABTA and ATOL protected.

TUI are recommencing flights to Sharm El Sheikh from next February. Flights are to operate from 5 regional airports including Gatwick, Manchester and Birmingham along with Doncaster and Bristol from next May. I believe TUI are the first operator to offer flights back to Sharm El Sheikh since the UK government reduced it's threat level for the region. Flights were initially suspended following the downing of Russian airline Metrojet 9268 on October 31 of 2015. It's a brave move for TUI.

Inclusive Tour/Travel firm Hays Travel, has said it is laying off 878 staff due to the impact of Covid-19 on the travel industry.

The company previously took over a number of Thomas Cook branches after the Thomas Cook collapse.

I thought that that they were Travel Agents. The piece I read that inferred the people in training and working in travel money were the ones to go.

I'm afraid that more jobs in travel/aviation will have to go. Now that the furlough scheme is coming to an end and employers are having to pay a proportion, the business can't take it.

Tui says it is considering pulling out of the London Stock Exchange in favour of a move to Frankfurt.

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
