EasyJet to offer extra winter flights
EasyJet has released its 2009-10 winter schedule from Gatwick Airport, confirming that it will operate additional flights to a number of destinations across Europe.
Both Zurich and Vienna will be served by two daily flights over the winter, while frequency to Munich will increase to three services a day.
EasyJet will also continue to offer connections to perennially popular destinations such as Palma and Alicante for winter sun getaways and Geneva for ski holidays.
The release of this year's schedule represents easyJet's earliest ever sale of winter flights.
Explaining the move, Paul Simmons, the airline's general manager in the UK, said: "Whilst most of us are eagerly awaiting our summer holiday, we know that people want to escape the doom and gloom of the credit crunch and book their important holidays now; such as their ski break or Christmas holiday."
For the summer season this year, easyJet will be increasing its number of flights from Gatwick Airport to popular holiday destinations including Bodrum, Dalaman and Toulouse.

easyJet lose Gatwick price rise legal challenge
The High Court has dismissed a claim by easyJet that price increases approved at Gatwick Airport last year were legally flawed, the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) said yesterday. The budget airline had accused the CAA, which regulates the airports network, of unlawfully raising the cost of using the airport, claiming that the price hike followed private talks between the regulator and the airport's operator BAA after the deadline for a consultation period passed.
easyJet said the decision to increase the maximum charge per passenger using Gatwick by £1.18 to £6.79 would cost it £46 million in extra fees over the next five years. The CAA says the price increases are necessary to pay for modernisation and improvements in services, including additional security costs at the airport.
CAA Group Director Economic Regulation Harry Bush said in a statement: 'The CAA is pleased with the outcome of this judicial review. This provides an opportunity to draw a line under the most recent price control reviews of Heathrow, Gatwick and Stansted and to focus on future regulation of airports.' The court did, however, grant easyJet the right to appeal.

easyJet is launching its first route between the UK and Sweden. The airline will fly daily between Gatwick and Gothenburg from September 6, with flights already on sale from £29.99 one way including taxes.
A spokesman for the airline said: ‘We think Gothenburg is going to be a great addition to our network for both business and leisure passengers. By flying Easyjet, travellers will be able to enjoy fantastic service and low fares to convenient airports. Gothenburg brings our total number of routes out of Gatwick to 81 and we have even more new destinations to announce soon.'

easyJet has launched a new night check-in service at Gatwick Airport that enables passengers to check-in the night before departure – ideal for those staying in an airport hotel before an early flight.
The budget airline said it launched the service after an independent survey of 1,000 passengers revealed that a staggering 31% have missed an early morning flight. Almost half of respondents said that early morning check-in made them anxious, with one in four passengers getting less than three hours sleep as they were so afraid they would miss their flight!
The night check-in service means passengers can check in their hold baggage and collect their boarding passes so that in the morning they can head straight to the departure lounge. The service is available to passengers on flights from Gatwick airport departing before 08:30 and will allow passengers to check-in from 20:00 the night before departure.
Paul Simmons, easyJet’s UK manager, said: ‘easyJet’s priority is ensuring that passengers start their holiday as they want to continue. By introducing the night check-in service we aim to take the stress out of early morning flying by ensuring passengers can fly straight through to the departure gate.’

If you need to go to London and travel from Gatwick airport you can take the EasyBus service but you can also use something called the London Pass... helped me loads when I arrived at Gatwick airport nd travelled to and in London...

From 1 August this year easyJet will wet-lease an E190 from the German company, WDL Aviation, for its operations at Gatwick.
The linked article gives no indication of the period the lease will cover.
The E190 is an interesting choice given its seating capacity is consideraby less than easyJet's smallest type of aircraft, the 156-seat A319.

Now that would be funny!
On a very recent easyJet flight out of LGW they had a problem with our A319 aircraft. The left hand side of the plane wasn't getting any airconditioning from the port engine. This presumably had manifested itself on the previous flight and so we were grounded until it was fixed. First they thought they might be able to fix the engine valve concerned and an engineer spent a considerable time with his head under the engine cowling before it was admitted that a new valve would be required. A new valve ultimately arrived from the stores which was fitted before satisfactory static engine tests were undetaken, at which time the engineer and the captain deemed it okay to resume normal service. A new slot was sought and eventually given meaning that we got away over 2.5 hours late after having been sat on the aircraft for over 3 hours. It was stated, and apologised for by the captain, that we had been stuck on the aircraft as easyJet had no spare frames at Gatwick or we would have been moved onto another aircraft.
An E190 wouldn't have helped us at all as we were about fully loaded but it may could have been used by them on a less well utilised flight so allowing another A319/320 to be given to us.
However inless they have a flight programme already sorted for an E190 it must be something of a 'last chance saloon' decision as I think they run with pretty high load factors at Gatwick on their Airbus fleet. Can't really undrstand it unless of course they have a particular programme for it as A319/320's are available out there.

easyJet's load factor is very high across the board, usually over 90% per year, with summer months often seeing monthly fleet load factors of 93-94%, although from memory in recent months it has has fallen very slightly.
It will be interesting to see on which routes the E190 is to be operated. It might be an 'overspill' aircraft on routes that are likely to be sold out in the original programme.
I think that they must have a route programme for this aircraft on their 'quieter' routes, particularly in the winter season. It would surprise me if it was just to be brought in for 'overspills'. But who knows - we shall just have to wait and see.
