Monarch named first for punctuality in Manchester

Award winning low fares airline Monarch is top of the punctuality leader board in Manchester after operating more on-time departures from the airport in November 2008 than any other scheduled carrier*.

The percentage of on-time departures is measured by Manchester Airport for all airlines, with Monarch taking the top spot in November 2008, after 93% of its scheduled flights departed on-time** and the airline averaged a delay of only 3 minutes on each its flights.

Commenting on the achievement, managing director of Monarch flights and Holidays, Liz Savage said, “We know how important is for our customers to depart on schedule and the on-time performance of our flights is a key focus for Monarch’s operational and engineering teams. We set ourselves very high monthly performance targets which we all strive to achieve and it is fantastic that the measures we have in place are enabling us to meet and exceed our targets – and firmly places us above all other scheduled airlines operating from Manchester”.

In the month of November 2008, 93% of Monarch’s 245 scheduled flights departed on-time from Manchester Airport, with 99% departing within 60 minutes (one hour) of their scheduled departure time.

Monarch operates scheduled flights to Spain, Gibraltar, Portugal and Cyprus from Birmingham, London Gatwick, London Luton and Manchester airports. In addition to year-round low fares, Monarch also offers a unique range of tasty hot and cold meals onboard with prices from £3.00. To avoid a last minute free-for-all when boarding, seats can be pre-booked at £6 per one-way flight, or from only £15, extra-legroom seats are available, which offer up to six inches of extra space.

Passengers travelling on scheduled flights can also avoid the queues at the airport and take advantage of online check-in which is available between seven days and 4.5 hours prior to departure.

In addition to flights, Monarch also now offers a huge range of great value holidays, accommodation options, car hire and travel insurance.

* Manchester Airport’s punctuality league table compares scheduled airlines operating more than 150 departures per month.

** An on-time departure is defined as operating within 15 minutes of its scheduled departure time.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

The World's Most-Delayed Airports

Planning to visit India or Europe? Budget extra travel time. If airport delays in 2008 are any indication, you'll need it.

India takes the prize as the country with the most frequent late arrivals in our second annual tallying of the world's most-delayed airports. For departures, European airports - notably those in Italy - make up the bulk of the worst, though Beijing Capital Airport grabs the top spot.

India is a peculiar case. Its biggest airports have undertaken massive construction projects to cope with the country's rapid growth. Our most-delayed airport, Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji International, opened a new taxiway in November to reduce the wait time for landing aircraft.

Good thing - only 50 per cent of its flights arrived on time in 2008, according to FlightStats, a service that tracks historical and real-time flight information.

New Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, with a 51 per cent on-time arrival percentage last year, fully opened a third runway in October.

In May, Bangalore saw the addition of a sleek new airport, Bengaluru International, where growing pains account for some of the arrival delays. The airports ranked second and fourth on the list of worst arrivals, respectively.

In India, delayed arrivals are largely attributed to air congestion at a flight's origin, says a spokesperson for Bengaluru International Airport Limited, which owns and operates the city's new airport.

There, 80 per cent of departures were on time in 2008, yet just 60 per cent of flights arrived as scheduled. Why the difference? Faster runway exits and improved efficiency at the new airport give a boost to the percentage of flights departing on time.

Also high on the list of airports with the lowest percentage of on-time arrivals: Casablanca's Mohammed V International Airport (54% on time); Orio al Serio Airport near Bergamo, Italy (61%); New York LaGuardia (62%); Newark Liberty International (62%); Birmingham Airport in England (63%); London's Luton and Heathrow Airports (both 63% on time).

According to Kyla Evans, a spokeswoman for Eurocontrol, the Brussels-based air navigation safety organisation, airspace and taxiway congestion are the main cause for delays in Europe.

Seems logical, given the high number of European airports with delayed departures. They include: Manchester Airport in northern England (49% on time); Venice's Marco Polo International (54%); Nice Côte d'Azur International (56%); Rome's Fiumicino International (58%); and Paris' Charles Orio al Serio, near Bergamo (59%); Athens International (61%); and Paris' Charles DeGaulle International (62% on-time).

I'm surprised it made it into Manchester after the weather there today, many flights were cancelled.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

The weather forecasters are saying more snow is expected for the Greater Manchester area this evening. So more delays and diversions are expected again tomorrow morning.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

It will be interesting to see how things develop tomorrow morning with the forecast snow. The MET Office are predicting the heaviest snowfalls in the North West in Manchester and Liverpool with aircraft diversion options limited as BHX is likely to suffer from moderate snow by mid morning. The weather for the East of the Pennines is looking more difficult for the forecasters to predict so at the moment it's a close call as to how bad the snow will be at LBA and DSA.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

The BE173 from SOU to LBA diverted into MAN today because of snow and fog effecting LBA.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

As LBAspotter pointed out on the Leeds forum, the PH-BGH B737 = KL1073/4 from Amsterdam diverted to LBA yesterday because of snow at Manchester.

I spoke to someone who lives near Manchester airport and they said that about an inch of snow had fallen.

The passengers off the KLM flight were later bused back to Manchester.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Manchester airport is snow closed at the moment. Several aircraft including the Virgin Atlantic from Orlando, and also Etihad & Qatar diverted.

Did they divert or hold? You never said?!!

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Yes silly me I must have been distracted when I wrote that post. The flights were diverted. :coco: I know the Virgin went to BHX not sure about the others.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Inbound diversion, the LS332 service from Rome to Leeds has just diverted into Manchester.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Mahan Air Airbus A310-300 F-OJMI diverted into MAN from BHX when the runway at BHX was closed. Other notable diversions were an Emirates Airline 777, a SAS crj900 and a number of regional services.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Not the kind of circumstances you really want to see some inbound diversions but the incident at BHX has brought a little extra variety into Manchester over the last day or so.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Alwafeer Air Boeing 747-400 HZ-AWA1 finally made it to MAN a few hours later after diverting to LHR on the 1st of December 2010. (See the snowy conditions)

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
