Anyone know what the new policy is regarding parking on taxiways? This happened yesterday and won't have been on the fly. Is there a new excess traffic plan?

btw Simon Lowe mentioned that G-XWBG will be blocking a taxiway for a while. Hit by lightning and needs a few checks before cleared to depart.

Aircraft can be parked on taxiways. Usually only happens if they’re short of stands. The aircraft will park and then the airport personnel will put background markers out (red and white color) which indicates that the taxiway is closed and is technically a stand in which ground crew would be able to use to do their work on the aircraft. ATC would also be made aware so they can direct aircraft through other taxiways.

PIK used to handle many diversions and the terminal could cope but the staffing level couldn`t
True but when a flight needs to land and options are few and far between then handling considerations are the least of your concerns.

I was once told LBA could accept the A380 on the same principle. It would only be able to position out empty and it would need to park on a taxiway but it could be done. The chance of it ever happening is extremely low though as there are plenty of better options before a pilot would need to choose a short field option.

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?
survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 2nd time
If you’re tired of takeoffs, you’re tired of life.
49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
