Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Luton Airport closed by snow

ALL arrivals and departures to Luton Airport have been cancelled until at least midday after a second wave of snow hit southern England.

Travellers heading between France and Britain could face disruption throughout the weekend.

Stanstead Airport said some flights were subject to delays.

There are delays to arrivals and departures at Exeter Airport.

The BBC is reporting no flights in and out of Bristol and the airport’s website appears to be down.

Elsewhere UK airport operator BAA says major airports are operating a “near normal” service despite a second wave of snow hitting the south of the country.

Arrivals and departures at Heathrow, Gatwick, Southampton, Glasgow, Edinburgh and Aberdeen appear to be on schedule.

Liverpool John Lennon Airport also recommended that passengers check with their airline and Leeds Bradford airport is functioning normally.

BAA is advising passengers travelling to airports to allow extra time on the roads.
Birmingham Airport has reported some flights are delayed but advised travellers to check with their airlines or the airport’s website.

Snowfall earlier this week caused massive disruption to flights following the closure of Heathrow Airport and the cancellation of 1,350 flights.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

There's been major disruption this evening at Luton because of snow. Easyjet has cancelled all flights from the airport tomorrow morning. Passengers are advised to expect major disruption.

Re: Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

Snow closure

The heavy snow that is affecting much of the country has now closed Luton Airport.

The last aircraft landed at 2025.

There is a notice on the airport website saying that flights will either be cancelled, diverted or delayed.

It always makes me laugh that the forecasters wont ever commit to more than 30 or 40% chance even if it's a dead cert that it's going to take place.

[textarea]Birds delay Luton Airport flights

There were delays and problems on Friday at Luton Airport, with two incidents caused by birds on the runway, Bedfordshire on Sunday reports.

According to the pilot of a delayed easyJet at Nice Airport, Flight 2122 was delayed by an hour due to Luton Airport being shut for 30 minutes. Passengers were told this was because of a Monarch flight having to make an emergency landing after take off due to a bird strike.

The Nice flight was then required to take off again on touch down at Luton. This manoeuvre, known as a ‘go around’, was again caused by concerns over birds on the runway.

Does anyone know the reason why EZY7259 from Liverpool to Bodrum suddenly diverted to Luton when it had just reached the other-side of the channel and was approaching the Belgian coast?
I'm obviously suspecting it's a technical problem, but does anyone know the exact reason why G-EZTH diverted into, what I believe to be London Luton?

Apparently luton airport is closed following a runway surface defect? Guessing it must be heat related
Runways can suffer defects just in the same way as a motorway can. Pot holes do occur from time to time and they have to be repaired as soon as they are found prior to further aircraft movements. There will be a team of groundsmen who usually carry quick setting concrete to mend them. Its one of the many reasons why you see Airside Safety patrolling runways between movements.

It would appear that in this instance the damage requires more attention than the airports own maintenance team that assuming the airport is still closed?

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
