EasyJet integrates with the "Gatwick Connect" website to allow connectivity onto Norwegian / WestJet .

I have been banging on ad nauseum about how utterly xxxx the Manchester Airport booking option is. In some cases it does not provide the best result or most direct flight.

On my android the "direct tab" is actually hidden IF you scroll up to see the menu: structure top left. I tick the Direct tab BUT ONLY because I know it exists.

And yet here with Gatwick Connects an easy way to connect from a European destinations to Canada/USA etc with a major airline has been provided.

Surely a Manchester University IT graduate could develop a better option than we have at the minute.

And one thorughly tested to give improved results.

Ps
Having just tried alighting on the Book flight page the direct tab isn't even there. Fancy Beijing? You are booked via AMS with KLM !

And here we are wondering why Hainan is dropping to 3 a week.

Why bother with advertising and roadshows if your own website gives a different answer to the message your marketing team wish to convey ?
Although I very broadly agree with you on the webpage, I thought we'd established hainan reducing was to do with fleet issues or something similar? We are not being singled out (SEA, ORD, SJC) being reduced too so I just hope numbers remain broadly similar and hopefully we can get back up to daily next summer as we had this summer.

Lord Andrew Adonis (chair of the National Infrastructure Comission) has today expressed his belief that there is a 50:50
Chance the government will make a decision on the proposed third runway at Heathrow next year.

I assume this means the parliamentary vote, but it is not clear whether this means delay or defeat (I think the former).

44 sets of cranes. Remarkable rate of growth with most major cities outside London lucky to have 1 or 2.

Manchester is on the verge of becoming the next Silicon Valley according property experts in the city – and in London.

The latest Savills “Manchester Office: Market Spotlight” report revealed that the city had seen a 20% increase year-on-year in the take up of office space with sector insiders believing expansion will result in significant employment growth in the next five years.

Meanwhile, commercial property company Colliers International has also reported that 40% of office space enquiries are from the tech sector.

Manchester is already home to 52,000 tech workers, the largest tech force outside London, with the fourth-highest digital turnover in the UK at £2.9bn.

Property specialists say the growth opportunities are primarily the result of the ongoing Northern Powerhouse initiative which is supporting growth in different sectors across Manchester, particularly the tech industry.

Chief executive of Properties of the World, the London-based firm of property agents, Jean Liggett, said: “Things are changing fast in Manchester, giving the city the very real potential of becoming the next Silicon Valley.

Greater Manchester mayor Andy Burnham has pledged his commitment to creating a world-leading tech hub and a growing number of tech start-ups are already snapping up office space around the city.

The digital tech growth potential of Manchester is due to be further enhanced by the major expansion of the BBC recently announced.

MediaCityUK, already the BBC’s second home in Salford Quays, will welcome 200 new employees this year.

In addition, Indian company, 42Gears, which specialises in professional mobile software is setting up a European technology and innovation base in Manchester city centre.

Peter Gallagher, director, national offices at the Manchester office of real estate advisors Colliers International, said: “Tech founders love the entrepreneurial nature of Manchester.

“There were nearly 2,000 start-ups during 2016 – a 10% increase on the previous year and well above the average for the rest of the UK with many of them from the tech sector.

“The commercial property sector understands the specific requirements of tech firms and can accommodate everything from co-working to pro-working.

“The tech and digital enterprise sector now has critical mass in Manchester with more than140,000 employed making it the second city for tech industry after London.

“This creates a maturing ecosystem of innovation and support, greatly shortening the time from start-up to scale up.

“It’s no wonder three so-called ‘unicorn’ private companies with a valuation of $1bn or more have come from within or close to the city and some of the most successful tech IPOs of recent years also hail from the city region.

“With top universities, a truly cosmopolitan city centre leisure and music scene and a rapidly growing housing stock, Manchester is just a great place to live, learn, work and play.

“Attitude works for tech and so does sport and we have both in spades. Years ago Tony Wilson said ‘this is Manchester – we do things differently here’.

“My favourite quote of the moment is ‘Manchester is a city that thinks a table is for dancing’.”

Liggett added: “Interest in Manchester is growing stronger and stronger as the city enjoys a bright economic outlook.

“Savills has predicted Manchester to be in the top five fastest growing cities from 2017 to 2021 which in turn is boosting demand for housing and investment properties which we, through our wide portfolio of opportunities, are able to answer.”

It will be interesting to see how the Monarch sale goes. It does look as though the bulk of the business will go as one.

If EasyJet buy them I would think LGW AND MAN will be safe as both are becoming slot constrained. Not sure where that leaves BHX. Would EASY who have been lukewarm re BHX take on a raft of based units ?

Would NOR buy the maintenence given Boeing have a 787 facility going up at LGW.

Hopefully EZY won't buy Monarch because as you say would they keep bases at the likes of BHX and LBA?They'd probably just defend what they have. A Norwegian owned Monarch may well be more inclined to keep those bases and expand them and expand to new airports providing more consumer choice across the country.

Excellent read. If only I could believe it had any chance of actually happening ...

Its a reasonably old article!!

As the article states, the UK as a whole suffers because its political, commercial, financial, media, and cultural centre is in one location. London. Obviously London benefits from this significantly, and as a result is an Alpha ++ city (New York being the only other Alpha ++). I think it is generally accepted that this needs to change (or the imbalance redressed).

Moving the BBC and not Channel 4 is an attempt to shift the media in part, which has met significant resistance. Imagine the resistance if the political centre was shifted out of London? I don't see it, the best realistic case is a temporary shift (for the period required to refurbish the palace of Westminster) but even then I see a strong desire to remain in the London area.

This would obviously act as a massive catalyst for Manchester, but it is doing very well on its own and will continue to do so moving forward.

I think there was the idea muted that during the major refurbishment Parliament could go on the road around the UK but the government will always remain in Westminster.

As an aside Ch4 I think is heading to Birmingham which had it been a "car" would make perfect sense.

Jet2 will apparently double the base at STN by 2019.

I hope this isn't at expense of Manchester!

Wouldn't this be doubling the base from 2 - 4 aircraft over a 2 year period? So, one aircraft a year?

STN is currently 8 based, so means 16 based by 2019 if I understand it correctly.

But in answer to the question, probably not have any impact on MAN,

So where will they get the extra aircraft? Especially if they continue to expand at their other bases and IF they decide to launch new bases.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
