Aces, I think you should dispatch one of your excellent missives. I'm sure they will be celebrating the Chinese New Year in Hong Kong. As I recall, this is not the first time the airport has omitted a mention of CX and HK in reference to China, despite the handover of sovereignty being 20 years ago.

The article mentions $1.41bn for the full contract, which at today's rate is just about £1bn. The time scale is only 4 years from 2018 - 2022, but we don't know when the preliminary design work and tendering process started.

I guess the 2.5 piers at MAN will provide about 25 contact stands plus how ever many will be available at pier 2 or the empty space if it never gets built. A similar number to the 33 at EWR. But of course, these at MAN are not all additional stands but replacing 14 contact stands and 6 remote (200/201 and 216-219). I wonder if EWR is the final scheme or whether it will be scaled back to keep to budget?

Not sure, but the total rebuild of nearby La Guardia appears to represent outstanding value compared to LHR numbers at least. And London can't use the argument that New York isn't a comparable city (which they do when the price-tag of Istanbul's stunning new airport is mentioned).

I rather think most airport developments will look outstanding value compared to LHR!

In terms of EWR, we'd need to know how functional or architecturally elegant the inside of the new terminal is planned to be. If it's domestic, it probably won't be too ornate.

Out of interest, does anyone know with Terminal developments of this nature how the costs of the outer structures, piers etc. roughly compare to the internal fitting out?

Do we know who is operating the DUB Beijing service assuming there is a grain of truth on the latest rumour on dried fruit. In addition are we still daily for summer ?

Is it possible Hainan may have "moved" a unit from our neck of the woods .

When I was reading about the new services from Carlisle the other day, a couple of ads popped up advertising Air China from Dublin which I thought a bit odd at the time.

There is supposed to be a new China to Dublin service starting up so i guess we now know the airline!

I must admit, i didn't take a lot of notice of it, as these days you seem to get "ads" popping up for your attention all the time. Although thought it odd, as I hadn't been search for flights to China. So maybe its Air China ?!

Well at least ifrom a Manchester perspective it wouldn't be a swap out with Hainan.

Figures for Dublin overall are powering ahead !

On the other forum though User001 said that Hainan hold the rights for the route so it'll be interesting to see which airline turns up.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
