Thursday 1 March

The following departures in the first group due out tomorrow morning have already been cancelled.

KLM to AMS (mentioned in previous post)
EI to DUB
EZY to AGP, KRK, EDI, BFS, BCN

Why would easyJet cancel AGP and BCN now? I can't discover any industrial action that might be the reason. I thought at first that this might be a precaution in case the aircraft could not get back into BRS later in the day because of the forecast heavy snow. But easyJet hasn't cancelled (yet) the likes of MJV, PMI, TFS, ACE, KEF, AMS, FAO, all of which also depart in the first group tomorrow.

I can't explain exactly why those routes have been cancelled at this time and not others, but morning cancellations will likely be tactile to avoid EZY aircraft getting stuck down-route. The weather after midday tomorrow in BRS will likely lead to a large accumulation of snow, and therefore possible delays.

I know many of the companies at BRS (from handling to catering) are expecting and have planned for major travel disruption tomorrow afternoon evening and many of the local hotels already booked out for keeping staff nearby, or in-case they can't get home!

The Met Office has just issued a Red Warning for snow in the South West region.

"Widespread snow is expected to develop through Thursday afternoon and evening. Around 10-20 cm is likely to fall widely, with the potential for up to 30 to 50 cm over parts of Dartmoor, Exmoor and parts of southeast Wales. Snowfall will be accompanied by strong to gale easterly winds, leading to severe drifting of lying snow especially in upland areas. Severe cold and wind chill will compound the dangerous conditions, with very poor visibility. Towards midnight, there is a chance of snow turning to freezing rain in places, mainly across the south of the area, with widespread icy stretches making driving conditions particularly dangerous."

easyJet seems to have cancelled all its flights at BRS for the rest of the day, having operated a few early this morning.

One plus easy will have most of the aircraft in the right place when they start again. The only draw back and its a big one. the pax for todays programme will suffer.

Rather than whats been suggested. A general weather forum as the beast from the east will be gone in the not too distant future.

As I mentioned yesterday, easyJet didn't cancel all their early flights from BRS and seven departed this morning before the blanket cancellation was put in place.

The light snow covering of this morning seems to have been given a break at the moment.

According to the BRS website Ryanair even managed the early DUB rotation today but the later ones have already been cancelled, the only Ryanair cancellations so far shown. Aer Lingus Regional seems to have cancelled its flights to BRS today, and Aurigny has cancelled its lunchtime Guernsey rotation with Blue Islands/Flybe cancelling the late afternoon Jersey rotation.

TUI, TCX, KLM (apart ftom the first outbound because last night's inbound was cancelled) and bmi regional seem to be operating at the moment.

Rumour that some early morning rotations are coming back without reaching destination airport? Any truth in that. Have to check flight radar.

I'm not aware of that but your check of FR24 might throw some light on it.

Looking at the BRS website departures page all flights except one* across all airlines due to depart after 1400 have been cancelled. Currently a KLM to Amsterdam and a TUI to Las Palmas are boarding.

* the exception is the KLM to Amsterdam at 1720 which is still showing 'self-service check-in'.

Tomorrows arrivals will be interesting. Mainly to see if after the BMI plane skid fiasco when arrivals were not showing on the airport website. Has the airport done anything about it and rectified their systems.

Tomorrow will tell.

Do you think there will be any arrivals tomorrow? The weather forecast is not encouraging.

Although everything outbound since around 1400 hours has been cancelled the airport is still open for inbounds. The most recent arrival was a bmi regional from Frankfurt that landed at 1546 hours. Of those that did depart today there are still six due to return. The last one is a TUI from Arrecife showing an eta of 1845.

It's been snowing steadily for the last couple of hours where I live about seven miles from BRS. Let's hope the really heavy stuff holds off until the outstanding inbounds manage to land.

79 departures and 79 arrivals scheduled for today.

Departures
Operated: 7 easyJet, 6 Ryanair, 9 bmi regional, 2 KLM, 2 TUI, 1 TCX - Total 27

Cancelled: 33 easyJet, 5 Ryanair, 5 bmi regional, 5 Aer Lingus Regional, 2 KLM, 1 Aurigny, 1 Blue Islands/Flybe - Total 52

Arrivals
Operated: 7 easyJet, 6 Ryanair, 8 bmi regional, 2 KLM, 2 TUI*, 1 TCX - Total 26

Cancelled: 33 easyJet, 5 Ryanair, 6 bmi regional, 5 Aer Lingus Regional, 2 KLM, 1 Aurigny, 1 Blue Islands/Flybe - total 53

* 1 TUI from ACE diverted to MAN after spending around 40 minutes circling overhead BRS. It was the first inbound today to be diverted. Unlucky because a TCX from ACE landed just 45 minutes before the TUI's arrival time. Still 1 outstanding TUI - from Gran Canaria - due in after 2300. I don't know what is happening to it.

Tomorrow (Friday) should have 85 departures. Already 34 have been cancelled.

Airport website showing almost all departures cancelled except BMI.

Are BMI late in annoincing cancellations? Not good for passengers as some will try to get to the airport needlessly.

FR from Alicante is in the air due to land at 12:20. With the A38 being impassable where will the passengers go? Just add to the total amount of stranded passengers in the terminal. No buses, no trains, no taxis.

And the diverted Thomson is waiting to return from Manchester.

Snow is being forecast for 2 pm. It does not look good for this evening for poor travellers.

I am booked on this afternoon's Munich flight BM1845 and I have received an email saying it will 'possibly' be cancelled but offering a full refund or rebooking options.....

Runway now open

This update is now on the airport website:

Update at 12.30h Friday 2nd March: Bristol Airport's runway has now reopened to enable flights which have not already been cancelled to operate today. Please note that airline cancellations mean the remaining flight schedule is very limited. Road conditions at and around the Airport remain challenging and drivers should proceed with caution. Bus and coach operators have cancelled public transport between the Airport and Bristol, Weston-super-Mare and Bath for the rest of the day. easyJet has cancelled all flights to and from Bristol Airport for the remainder of the day and most other carriers have experienced significant disruption to their flight programmes. Passengers flying from Bristol Airport this weekend are advised to contact their airline for the latest flight information and check local travel updates before setting off to the airport.

Apart from passengers, crews and airport staff also have to be able to reach the airport in order for it to operate.

Addendum

As of 1320 hours the airport website is showing that most of today's 85 departures have been cancelled.

The exceptions are the Thomas Cook flight to Tenerife which is shown as 'gate closed', the TUI flight to Tenerife which is shown as 'check-in' and the Ryanair flights to Cologne and Alicante which are shown as respectively 'boarding' and 'gate closed'.

In addition, these bmi regional flights for this afternoon are all shown as 'check-in': Munich, Dusseldorf, Frankfurt, Brussels and Aberdeen, as is the Blue Islands/Flybe to Jersey.

As for the 85 arrivals today, most have been cancelled except for the Wizz Air from Katowice that diverted to BHX, with the return from BRS shown as cancelled, the Ryanair from Cologne and Alicante that arrived at 1240 and 1217 respectively.

The bmi regional and Blue Islands/Flybe services mentioned above have no remarks in the arrivals section of the website which presumably indicates they are expected to depart and later return (the other way around in the case of the Blue Islands/Flybe).

Addendum 2

The bmi regional flights to FRA, MUC and DUS have now been cancelled along with the Blue Islands/Flybe flight to JER. BRU and ABZ still showing 'check-in'. The 1105 hours TUI to Tenerife is showing 'final boarding' (at 1630) so it looks as though it will operate.

Addendum 3

The bmi regional flights to BRU and ABZ did operate plus the inbound from GOT.

I was due to fly out today on the 7.00 am flight from Bristol to Lanzarote.Had an E-Mail at 7.00pm last night from Easy Jet cancelling the flight.Have no complaints about the cancellation, I can appreciate that the severe weather conditions are still causing havoc. It must be costing Easy Jet a shed load of money.Pretty well every Easy Jet flight up to lunch time is cancelled. My beef with Easy Jet is that although the E-Mail gives you advice on what to do, ie.go on line to manage your bookings, there you can E-Mail them with your request and they will get back to you within twenty four hours. There is a telephone number but not surprisingly no one answered. In other words you are on your own.Yes ,I do realise Easy Jet are a low cost airline and you get what you pay for,but if you are cancelling on mass.I would have thought they would have have better systems in place.By the way this wasn't just flight booked with Easy Jet this was a package with Hotel and transfers. Anyway managed to get two seats on a flight out from Gatwick with Easy jet for this afternoon so will get out to Lanzarote eventually. Will probably spend most of the time on the coach to Gatwick on the phone to Easy Jet arguing the toss over the extra costs.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
