Quite a few flights cancelled today (Friday) due to weather related. There is far too many to list them all,but as the day goes on I expect more flights will be cancelled.I have looked around and cant find out if runway is open if closed when is it expected to open.There is a lot of aircrafts that diverted last night in the wrong places. Lets hope it can get things back to normal as some thing like this puts many people in many diffacult problems.

easyJet has cancelled all its BRS departures today until 1910 hours - 41 of them!

Currently just four easyJet departures are showing as not yet cancelled - flights that are due to operate later this evening.

The snow is heavier than was forecast, came much later and is lasting far longer. Still snowing heavily in south Bristol as it has been doing all morning. That said, most of the main roads and motorways in the area are open and the Bristol buses are running a near normal service with side roads sometimes not being operated.

Has to be hoped that Ryanair and Aer Lingus can get some Dublin flights operating as at the moment there are some unhappy bunnies telling the local paper that they are worried they'll miss tomorrow's Ireland-England Six Nations match.

BRS is having a run of poor winters. Last year over 400 flights were cancelled because of the so-called 'Beast From The East'. I suppose its location in the North Somerset 'mountains' doesn't help either.

It's certainly becoming a gamble.

BRS website now showing all 45 of easyJet's scheduled departures today as cancelled. Apart from the snow and unknown length of the BRS closure, there seem to be around eleven easyJet aircraft from BRS still parked at CWL and BHX.

BRS runway now re-opened but nearly all the airlines have gone home. Currently only EI3286/7 from/to DUB at 1845 and KL1057 from AMS at 2205 are showing as not cancelled. There should have been 16 departures and 37 arrivals from now this evening. Obviously a lot of the arrivals would have been scheduled to depart earlier in the day when the runway was still closed.

Reports in the local press are saying that lots of Welsh rugby fans were at BRS to travel to Paris for this evening's France v Wales Six Nations match. All three Paris CDG flights today were cancelled (flybmi at 0700 and 1335 and easyJet at 1400).

Some were asking why easyJet could not have operated flights from Cardiff and Birmingham where it seems most of their BRS aircraft were parked following diversions yesterday evening. In 2007 easyJet switched operations to CWL for a day at short notice following the BRS closure for emergency runway work.

At a conservative guess easyJet will have to refund the fares of around 14,000 customers at BRS today.

No doubt English and Irish rugby fans were also affected as the three Ryanair DUB flights were cancelled and at least three out of the four Aer Lingus Regional (Stobart).

Why not try CWL or EXT?

It's pot luck. Last winter the 'Beast From The East' closed EXT and CWL for as long as BRS was closed. BRS often seems worse because there are many more flights to be cancelled from there.

As far as snow is concerned, Bristol and its environs is usually less affected than most areas of the South West and the rest of the UK. BRS doesn't have quite the same advantage as the city because it's at 600 feet elevation, but as a youngster living near the airport in the 1950s I can remember being disappointed more than once when promised snow (I'd regard it as threatened snow these days) did not arrive, but other areas not a million miles away did see the white stuff on such occasions.

The first aircraft to land for around 22 hours has just touched down: Aer Lingus Regional (Stobart) ATR 72-600 from Dublin. It looks as though the only other inbound commercial flight this evening will be the KLM from Amsterdam at 2205. Those aircraft that diverted to other airports yesterday will also reposition into BRS this evening and the airport said it expects a normal service to operate on Saturday.

That should certainly help the rugby fans off to Dublin.

Where did you find that? The BRS 'View Next 24 hours' only goes as far as 0750 on my screen, and a check with tomorrow's BRS-DUB route booking engine shows sold out. I can find nothing on the Ryanair website either.

I did a bit of research on the Ryanair travel update website. Currently showing 6 early deps tomorrow morning - Alicante , Rzeszów, Venice , Sofia , Tenerife and Kaunas. There is also 2 extra Dublin . The brs website is no use and f24 seems to omit extra services and always omits the enter air service - miss the mayfly

Normal service means a few flights cancelled here and there. The last sentence had to put down as my thoughts were running riot and funny. Lets hope all operate Saturday with no problems. I must say a good job done in snow clearance of runway and all associated bits and bobs in difficult conditions. Well done the snow clearing team.
