Cardiff: Weather & Technical Diversions, Delays & Cancellations

A few diversions and cancellations today so far. Been quite foggy here in Cardiff.
Eastern Airways 07.35 departure and the 09.45 arrival for Anglesey were both cancelled, their 15.30 arrival from Newcastle diverted to Birmingham and the 16.20 departure will operate from there.
Also Flybe fights to Jersey, Dublin, Glasgow and Milan having delayed departures and arrivals due to aircraft having to hold before being able to land.
Due to the runway closure at BRS,the 16.50 KLM from Amsterdam also diverted into CWL at 17.33 and ,this is a guess, will probably operate from CWL. Hopefully CWL will get a few more diverts from BRS during the evening.

Fog due to lift this evening but only slightly. Hopefully CWL can help out with handling flights from BRS to get people to where they need to be!

KLM positioned the flight empty to Amsterdam.

CWL has missed out on most diverts due to the fog.

Easyjet A319 G-EZFU operating MAD-BRS diverted into CWL and landed at 22.18 last night and parked on stand 12 for the night.

2 Easyjet diverts from BRS at the moment.
A319 G-EZMK from Glasgow. Landed at 15.30 and A320 OE-IVN from Funchal landed at 15.35.

I saw someone mention cloudbase at 100 feet on social media and no ILS on Runway 9. Whether that is the reason for the diverts I don't know.

Whatever it is is only affecting flights intermittently.

09 the runway that is not Cat3 equipped (because of topography outside the airport boundary) is the active runway. The first to divert was the easyJet from GLA due at 1420. Since then of the 21 scheduled arrivals four have diverted with the other 17 landing. There are 21 more arrivals due this evening.

Local forecast for tomorrow is for more fog/mist with an easterly wind so there might be further difficulties.

Vis was terrible at BRS this afternoon, and as TLY said, there’s no CAT 3 on RWY 09 so EZY cannot autoland. Large tailwind on 27 hence why 09 was in use, and out of limits for 27.

Not good for the passengers though - it's always an inconvenience when a flight is diverted.

I've flown in and out of BRS several hundred times over the past 40 odd years and I've only ever been diverted once. In fact, the inbound aircraft was diverted - to CWL because of BRS weather and we were all taken by coach to CWL. It was a Thomson/Britannia Airways (B737-200) inclusive tour holiday to Palma in the mid 1980s.

I've now probably put the evil eye on the next flight I take from BRS.

This would not generate a huge amount in the coffers of Cardiff Airport as they are all Fuel & GO's. It is when they start offloading that generates the largest income.

I see the morning rotation into CWL from malaga diverted to BHX after holding for a while. The return to malaga operated from BHX.
Was this weather related or a tech issue with the aircraft.

It was weather related. Very foggy this morning. Shortly after it left the hold for BHX the fog cleared enough for the other aircraft in the hold to land. Sods law.

Anyone know why the Flybe Q400 inbound from GLA and one of the E195s inbound from TXL circled the airport for a while? I'm told the weather was ok by then.

This was a strange occurance and seems a mystery.

Weather was definitely ok so will be one of those unexplained as had the ATC radio turned off in the office (that will teach me)

A few flights cancelled this afternoon.
Flybe 15.40 Dublin with its 18.35 arrival as well is cancelled.
The 16.10 Anglesey is going to Hawarden instead with the 18.20 arrival cancelled.
The 19.05 Edinburgh is cancelled along with its 22.05 return.
On Fr24 it's saying that the 17.25 KLM AMS departure is cancelled but the airport website says go through security.
