[textarea]Aer Lingus axe five Belfast routes

Aer Lingus is cutting its Belfast flights this winter, taking one plane out of service and axing routes to Barcelona, Milan, Paris, Rome and Faro. The move is part of the airline’s wide ranging cuts to its winter schedule, which will also see it make 55 cabin crew in Dublin redundant.

The airline plans to slash short haul services over the winter, with the number of aircraft based in Dublin cut from 24 to 22 and the number in Belfast cut by one. However, new services from Belfast to Tenerife and Dublin to Fuerteventura and Tunisia will be launched in October.

This comes as no great shock and personally I always felt that they chose the wrong airport to set up their new base.

The airline is increasing the number of flights between Belfast and London to 4 x daily from the start of the summer season.

[textarea]Aer Lingus celebrate Belfast Airport milestone

Aer Lingus has sold two million seats in the three years since it began operating at Belfast International Airport, the Belfast Telegraph reports. One million passengers have flown to the Continent while just over 750,000 customers were flown on the flagship Heathrow route since the firm started flying from the airport on December 10, 2007.

Christoph Mueller, the airline's chief executive, said that the company has succeeded despite some of the most challenging years ever experienced in the airline industry. He said: ‘We continue to exceed targets and deliver real choice and competition to the marketplace. In just three years of operating from our Belfast base we are clearly delivering value for money to our customers.'

‘In June, we were rated in the top two airlines in Europe in a customer satisfaction survey and most recently we were voted best airline to Europe from Belfast at the Northern Ireland Travel and Tourism Awards. We've created 100 jobs, invested millions, offer 10 routes and have carried nearly two million passengers. But there is still plenty of room for growth.'

First of all welcome to Forums4airports!

Sorry I can't help you on this one. I've tried looking on the Google maps to see if you can tell which aircraft are parking where but the image isn't very clear.

Thanks for the welcome Aviador...so far I found that Gate 16 seems to be one of their primary gates, they also use 27 will keep trying to hunt down the two they still use or used to use. Mark

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!
If anyone would like to share their local airport news right here in our news area let me know so I can give you the correct permissions to do so. survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
