Back at the end of April I visited Sydney in Australia and then Auckland in New Zealand. I spent 2 days each exploring both cities. Although for both this time probably wasn't enough it did mean I got to see some of the main sights for both cities.
For Sydney on the first day I took a walk via the Sydney Opera House around to Fleet steps and Mrs Macquarie's chair which gave me a great view of the Opera House and the Sydney Harbour Bridge and then walked through the Botanic Gardens and visited the Australian Museum and the ANZAC war memorial. I also stopped at St Marys Cathedral, I find churches fascinating but also they can often be a good place to sit and rest during a lot of walking which I was doing, it was also very warm and the sun was strong so it provided a bit of shade. Sydney does have excellent public transport which I used to get from my hotel at the airport to the city.
Second day in Sydney I spent exploring the Australian maritime museum at Pyrmont Bay which I used the ferry to get to and involves going under the Sydney Harbour Bridge and then returned to Circular Quay and took the Manley Ferry and got some great views of the Harbour Bridge and Opera House. 2 days wasn't really enough but it has made me want to return to Sydney.
After Sydney I flew across the Tasman Sea to Auckland in New Zealand. I spent 2 days here as well exploring the city.
In Auckland I stay at Wynyard Quarter which was a 15 minute walk from Downtown. I visited the New Zealand Maritime Museum and then using the train and my legs again I visited the Auckland Museum which is also a war memorial and also has some great views as its on top of the a hill. Later on I went back to the city and explored the harbour a bit. Auckland has some amazing sail boats there.
Day 2 in Auckland I took a trip over to Devonport and visited the Torpedo Bay Naval museum and then walked up to Summit battery and North Head and the uphill walk was worth it as the views were amazing. There definitely was a lot of walking and I got my steps in for the whole trip. 2 days really wasn't enough in either city but the whole trip was worth it as both Sydney and Auckland are amazing cities and I enjoyed my time in both countries and hope to return in the future and would recommend that anyone should have Sydney and Auckland on their bucket list.
