[textarea]Continental Heathrow – Cleveland flights not coming back

Continental Airlines will not bring back seasonal flights from Cleveland to Heathrow Airport, northeast Ohio's only nonstop service to Europe, it has announced. The airline said in a statement that the global recession hurt demand for the daily flights, offered for the first time this summer.

Specific information about the route's performance is unavailable, because Continental does not release passenger numbers for individual markets. Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson says he plans to take local business leaders to Continental's Houston headquarters early next year to urge that the company reconsider the decision.

Continental Airlines is to add two new flights between Heathrow Airport and New York Newark Liberty International Airport. A surprising move after a recent press release suggested that transatlantic flights needed to be cut because of overcapacity.

May not be good news for an airport down in the West Country.

The usual obsession with London Heathrow. I agree, it would surely be better to look after their regional services than risk possibly watering them down.
