As this seems to be the main thread relating to manufaturers, I'll post this here.

It looks like there is a new large airliner manufacturer set to join the usual western builders of Airbus and Boeing within the next decade. A unit of China's state owned aircraft manufacturer 'Aviation Industry Corp of China' called Comac has launched a full 190 seat twin engined airliner called the C919, aiming to be ready for testing in 2014 and for delivery in 2016. They are hoping to be a major player particularly in the large Chinese market, as they anticipate up to 2,000 airliners will be needed in the next 20 years.

This will be big competition for the existing big two, Airbus have opened a factory in China and I expect both will be relying heavily on China's big market potential.

I don't expect there will be much interest from law abiding states. If the past Russian aviation industry is anything to go by, it isn't going to be renowned for its safety.

Russia has backed out of production this time, but China have plenty of their own dodgy practices to begin with.

When Comac’s C919 was being developed, a lot of US aerospace companies suffered from espionage/hacking by Chinese agents who wanted to copy the designs of components.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
