[textarea]Spanair Edinburgh – Barcelona flights launched
Spanair launched a new route from Edinburgh Airport to Barcelona yesterday. The Catalan airline will operate the route five times a week, adding to its current service between Madrid and Edinburgh. It expects to carry around 35,000 passengers over the summer on the Barcelona flights.
Luke Farajalla, operations director at the airline, said: Edinburgh was a logical decision as we believe the UK-to-Spain market is under served and the demise of Globespan created some real opportunities in Scotland. There is also demand from a city-to-city perspective because of the cultural appeal with Spanish travellers to see Edinburgh and also vice versa so we think it will work well.'
