Looks like another totally inaccurate press release similar to the last one we saw.

Arrecife is not new and is actually 2x weekly, same as Corfu and Heraklion. Girona is new but operates on Fridays not Saturdays. Hurghada is actually 3x weekly on Wed, Fri and Sun. Paphos is not new but is now only weekly as opposed to the original 2x weekly. Preveza was mentioned in the last press release but like then nothing is bookable anywhere, annoying as it'll now be unserved next year. Malta seems to have gone from flight only bookings (and Skyscanner) but at the moment it's still available weekly with a package deal, one to keep an eye on. I make it 7 weekly flights dropped (could be 8 if Malta goes) and 11 weekly flights added so as it stands a net gain of 3.

Comparisons are against last year and this years original release.

Antalya 5x weekly (+2 weekly)
Almeria 2x weekly (no change)
Bodrum weekly (New)
Bourgas 2x weekly (no change)
Comiso weekly (no change)

Edited to add the weekly Enfidha to the list.

That is disappointing at the moment in time. From the press release suggesting 7 new routes and 11 new weekly flights to the actual reality is pretty misleading!!! I was hoping they would react to the loss of Monarch as they have at LBA!

Summary of TCX Routes - Summer 2018

I've compared a week in August 2018 to the same week in 2017 of Thomas Cook Airlines schedule from BHX.
I used the flight search section of the website as the timetable isn't always accurate (for example it shows Santorini with one flight per week in mid-August 18, however these flights only operate up to the 10th July and then from the 28th August 18.

SUMMARY
In 2017 three flights were operated by non-BHX based aircraft on W-patterns from other UK bases:
AYT (MAN based aircraft)
DLM (MAN based aircraft)
HER (LGW based aircraft)

In 2018 six flights will be operated by non-BHX based aircraft on W-patterns from other UK bases:
AYT (LBA based aircraft)
AYT (BRS based aircraft)
DLM (MAN based aircraft)
HER (BRS based aircraft)
PMI (BRS based aircraft)
NBE (NCL based aircraft)

Will be interesting to see if the new Thomas Cook Balearics Division will pick up any UK PMI flights freeing up the UK based aircraft to operate on other routes

Hi there nwoody2001, how are you, I agree with your point about Thomas Cook new routes announcements, but as Thomas Cook is a Manchester based travel holiday and travel company, you can understand stand the total of new rouses announced, to the amount they already serve is about 38 destinations from Birmingham Airport and 67 destinations from Manchester Airport, so you can see where there aligance is with. I'm hoping and praying that Primera Air will become Birmingham Airports answer to what Thomas Cook is to Manchester Airport, but will now have to wait and see when more and more announcements come from between now and in the new year, and hope that Primera Air can build upon the demand when it arrives.... AndyC

Just to add to Severn's post, the routes that have been dropped since they announced their 2018 summer programme earlier this year are :-

Paphos (Fri)
Larnaca (Fri)
Fuerteventura (Mon)
Kos (Mon)
Heraklion (Sat)
Malta (Thu)

however there is still an empty slot to add another flight (Preveza? or re-add Malta) on Thursday morning.

and or course we have the usual Tuesday Santorini flights which stop for a few weeks in peak summer to add an extra Antalya (which is showing in Severn's post)

so I have no idea where there 3 a week Preveza flights have come from! Another confused press release from them!

Some of the W18/19 timetable is up. Compared to this winter we have an extra Antalya and an extra Hurghada but Tenerife drops one and the weekly Paphos is not listed. Very early days yet and there could well be changes.

Antalya 4x weekly (+1 weekly)
Banjul 2x weekly
Dalaman 3x weekly
Fuerteventura 2x weekly
Enfidha weekly
Hurghada 4x weekly (+1 weekly)
Lanzarote 3x weekly
Marsa Alam weekly
Palma 2x weekly
Paphos not showing (-1 weekly)
Sal weekly
Tenerife 2x weekly (-1 weekly)

Can I just say Severm a big thank you for the time and effort you appear to put in to get these numbers together. I have no idea what job you do, if this is part of it, or whether it is just a hobby. However, they are insightful and really useful in making sense out of some very confusing timetables.

Thanks!

Thomas Cook have been Tweeting about commencing flights to Marsa Alam, it seems to have worked as the Mail have picked up on it :)

A holiday company is resuming flights from Birmingham Airport to Marsa Alam in Egypt after a nine-year hiatus.

Thomas Cook is launching weekly flights from both Birmingham and Gatwick to the resort town which lies on Egypt's east coast.

The firm said the move was as a result of rapid growth in sales for holidays in neighbouring resort Hurghada which saw a 113 per cent year-on-year increase for winter 2017.

The flights, which launch on Monday October 30, will leave Birmingham on Mondays and Gatwick on Thursdays.

Thomas Cook's UK managing director Chris Mottershead said: "At Thomas Cook, we follow customer demand to make sure we are offering attractive hotels in sought-after destinations.

"Egypt has proven popular this summer and bookings remain strong for the winter period."

The northern market never really took to Marsa Alam. They preffered Sharm, Hurdarda, Luxor and Taba.

Marsa Alam starts tomorrow, it's too late to view the seat maps but looking into November flights are showing only a handful of seats left.

Sal starts on Thursday, seats maps show only 10 empty seats (y)

Rovaniemi has been added from BHX in W18/19, operating on Saturdays.

The timetable for next winter is showing quite a few additions.

Dalaman, Fuerteventura and Lanzarote all gain an extra weekly flight, Tenerife goes from two to six weekly and a weekly Gran Canaria has been added. Still no Paphos but Jet2 going year round may have put them off?

Plenty of time for change but so far we have

Antalya 4x weekly (+1 weekly)
Banjul 2x weekly
Dalaman 4x weekly (+1 weekly)
Fuerteventura 3x weekly (+1 weekly)
Gran Canaria weekly
Enfidha weekly
Hurghada 3x weekly
Lanzarote 4x weekly (+1 weekly)
Marsa Alam weekly
Palma 2x weekly
Roveniemi weekly
Sal weekly
Tenerife 6x weekly (+2 weekly)

Very very early days but up one aircraft in winter to three based.

Monday - Marsa Alam, Fuerteventura (extra) & Arrecife

Tuesday - Tenerife, Banjul, Enfidha (new) & Antalya (new and all winter but expect change or just Thursday)

Wednesday - Tenerife, Hurghada & Fuerteventura

Thursday - Sal, Arrecife & Antalya (new)

Friday - Hurghada, Tenerife & Arrecife (new)

Saturday - Tenerife (new), Banjul (moved from Friday & Fuerteventura

Sunday - Hurghada, Arrecife & Tenerife (new)

Obviously take with a pinch of salt as some this winter are on TUI and vice versa but fantastic to start with.

I cannot understand for the life of me why no Thomas cook flights to Gran Canaria ? Surely any of the big Canary Islands are a pull in the northern hemisphere winter ?

It is actual quite strange that they don't operate Gran Canaria all year around, you would have thought there was enough demand during winter. They do actual restart the flights on 14/02/19 on a Thursday at the moment!

Article highlights TCA performance in 2017 with some interesting analysis of airports and route destinations. Pulls out BHX to identify growth but highlighting the lack of long haul given the size of the TCA base

Thomas Cook Group carriers grow seat capacity 11% in two years as US market more than doubles; Birmingham biggest base without long-haul

526-Airline-TCX-Group-lead-image.jpg

Thomas Cook Airlines was busy at Birmingham in 2017, starting flights from the UK city to Comiso, Lesbos, Malta, Naples and Marsa Alam, with the first four services being celebrated by Louise Arscott, Regional Manager, Thomas Cook and William Pearson, Aviation Director, Birmingham Airport, plus crew. While the airline increased capacity from the airport by 9.1% in 2017, the UK facility is still the leading airport in the group’s network without long-haul flights.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
