The Flybe slots at Heathrow does anyone know if after 3 years and they become Flybe's can they use them or can someone use them for international routes?

Pretty sure they will own them and be free to do what they want with them so they will most likely sell them and make a killing says the cynic in me which was probably always the plan.

Or lease them maybe and get a guarenteed income off them. I don't know if they are tied to a specific terminal but Virgin and Delta could add a few extra flights and routes with those slots.

Heathrow celebrates Flybe’s first anniversary at the airport

  • Flybe celebrates anniversary at Heathrow – one year since the regional airline launched domestic routes to Aberdeen and Edinburgh
  • Heathrow announces date for Bringing Britain Closer – a discussion on UK connectivity with Heathrow – with panellists including representatives from VisitBritain, Transport Scotland, Leeds Bradford Airport, Liverpool John Lennon Airport, and other speakers to be announced from the UK airport and business community
  • Liverpool event is the latest phase of Heathrow’s 9-point plan to boost domestic connectivity
Today, Heathrow celebrates the first anniversary of Flybe’s inaugural flight from the UK’s only hub airport. In March 2017, the UK airline launched new services to Aberdeen and Edinburgh, increasing competition and choice for passengers on those routes, and helping Scottish businesses and passengers access over 180 global destinations via Heathrow. The airline has performed well in its first year of operations, seeing steady passenger growth and topping the airport’s ‘Fly Quiet and Green’ league table for Q4 2017, as Heathrow’s best operator in noise and emissions performance.

Just prior to Flybe’s arrival last year, Heathrow reduced domestic passenger charges by £10, making domestic routes more competitive for passengers and airlines. This January, Heathrow went one step further, applying a further £5 discount on the airport charges for UK passengers, a total domestic discount of £15 – the biggest discount in the airport’s history and resulting in savings of nearly £40 million annually and over £750 million over the next 20 years.

The anniversary coincides with the announcement that Heathrow is set to host Bringing Britain Closer – a discussion on UK connectivity with Heathrow. The event will take place in Liverpool on Wednesday 9th May , highlighting the airport’s commitment to domestic connectivity as the airport progresses its expansion project. Heathrow’s third runway is crucial to maintaining the UK’s hub status, delivering new domestic routes and connecting all of the UK to emerging markets around the world.

The event, hosted in partnership with the Liverpool Chamber of Commerce, will see representatives from UK airports, airlines and the business community have the opportunity to share views on how best to ensure UK air routes thrive from an expanded Heathrow, helping British passengers and businesses connect to the world. Emma Gilthorpe, Heathrow’s Executive Director for Expansion, is confirmed to speak at the session alongside other industry leaders, on domestic routes at an expanded Heathrow and why improving connectivity matters to businesses of all sectors across the UK.

Heathrow is committed to boosting domestic flights at the UK’s hub, today and in the future; the reduction in charges for UK departing passengers is just one of the steps Heathrow is taking to strengthen the UK’s connectivity. Last September, Heathrow released a 9 point plan – Bringing Britain Closer - which sets out Heathrow’s plan to improve connectivity from the UK’s hub, including a £10m Route Development Fund to support new domestic routes once a third runway is operational, and campaigning for the abolition of Air Passenger Duty (APD) on UK routes.

Heathrow’s Director of Expansion Emma Gilthorpe, said:

“We’re delighted to be celebrating the first anniversary of Flybe’s arrival at Heathrow. At the start of the year, we announced an even bigger discount for domestic passengers, and that’s just one of the measures we’re putting in place to boost domestic travel. Heathrow has been working hard to ensure every corner of the country benefits from the growth that stems from links to the nation’s hub airport and this Connectivity Conference will help the industry fully understand how we can work together to achieve this.”

It is interesting that Flybe have generally been quiet about these routes and how they are doing load factor and yield wise.

They must be doing alright following up with some PR a year on.
Yeah true. I also think from Heathrows perspective if/when the new runway is built they are their best candidate to launch new domestic routes. As i can't see BA launching any and if Easyjet turned up after R3 is built I'd imagine that they'd just launch the usual Scottish and Northern Ireland routes.

Im sure Easyjet will turn up, and that will likely be it for BA short haul.

BA will have to fight them on short haul because it provides a lot of feed to their long haul network.

And some firms are locked into contracts with BA where they have to use BA and will usually get a cheaper rate.

I think part of this BA cost cutting may be preparing for the future if Easyjet pitched up at Heathrow. They could one day bring back Free drinks on domestic flights to differentiate themselves.

Yes a bit like when they had to improve their service again BMA when they competed on domestic routes with the shuttle and to Amsterdam.

Yes, and always remote stands.

T5 and T2 are the only terminals at LHR capable of handling UK and Ireland flights.
Yet at AMS and CDG they use a mixture of remote and contact stands.

I guess both those airports have prop visitors all the time, whereas LHR does not and hasn't had any for years. I would really have to have a think back to remember when LHR had scheduled services with prop aircraft prior to this BE route - it must be a while ago and certainly predates any planning for T2.

Due to the tight spacing of aircraft for both departures and arrivals at LHR there was a significant amount of work that went in with HAL, NATS, and BE to ensure the props could be integrated in to the airport and ATC operations.

I would say KLM Cityhopper Fokker 50’s were the last props at heathrow, at a guess.

With Flybe shifting their Newquay-Gatwick flights to Heathrow in 2019 i wonder if we'll see Belfast City eventually.

They said they would link a few unserved UK cities including Liverpool with the extra runway at Heathrow.

I was thinking more in the present. Reading elsewhere apparently they only have 12 daily slot pairs and 11 will now be used and I'd imagine that the 12th will be used for a 5th EDI flight.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
