Routes Online have listed a few network changes, all are listed on the link below.

A big hit for Cardiff and Doncaster. Bit of a mix elsewhere with all the aircraft changes. To be expected with the new owners.

I believe that there may also be a Loganair E145 doing various domestic routes.

The Cologne-based airline WDL Aviation will be flying for Flybe to destinations in UK from 1 August 2019. The BAe 146 regional jet with the identification code D-AMGL will be stationed at Düsseldorf Airport. Destinations include the airports London City, Manchester, Leeds and Birmingham.

Can anybody give an explanation of why?

Or the same way that Stobart fly out of Southend under the flybe banner. Not necessary a bad idea. Sell the brand not the seats. Trump only owns his brand not his hotels. Future of aviation? As long as we retain the route and it shows confidence in the BHX market from our German friends.

I would imagine simply because they cannot fulfil their scheduled flying with their own fleet due staff shortages etc
Not a great situation if they are parking their own aircraft and having to lease in crewed aircraft.Cannot blame the staff though
if they are looking for more security. Then again as Ianbutty says they are taking steps to ensure the route keeps operating and that
can only be a good sign.
Interesting times ahead.

The DL/VS/KL/AF JV has now been tentatively approved, details are here:

There are a few relevant points here. According to the US regulator the remedy slots are for 6 IATA seasons (3 years) after that they can be used elsewhere so we may see carriers applying for these slots just to get slots at AMS that can be used elsewhere after the time limit is up.

Also mentioned is JetBlue applied for AMS slots but were told none available in the foreseeable future. With this in mind I wonder if these slots would be attractive to long haul entrant as a tag to get into BHX eg US-BHX-AMS. Failing that maybe an eastern carrier might fancy adding BHX as a tag to a route from AMS. Eg. SIN-AMS-BHX.

Also noted is that they expect the JV to create new routing options from the UK to US outside of LHR.

This is the fear that I have.

Slots at AMS are highly sought after and my concern is BHX could be left high and dry by an airline willing to sit it out for three years.

IMO AF/Flybe/KLM have enough slots between them on both routes and there is scope to just provide bigger equipment if they lose some.
But if Easyjet took 5 daily AMS I don't think I'd see it as prelude to stating a new base rather as a slot grab - but it depends how well those routes go in the longer term.

I think so too.

If they started AMS/CDG as part of a base then it would be a huge coup for BHX and hopefully the start of something big. If they started those routes in isolation then I'd fear the worst, especially being AMS/CDG based aircraft with less than ideal timings.

I guess time will tell :nailbiting:

C'mon folks! BHX-AMS came about 3000 passengers short of being in AMS top 20 European destinations last year. No mean feat when you look at the top 20 cities. Also only 5 of that top 20 were served by only 2 airlines.
Now iread about being left high and dry and slot grabs and that Easy taking up the route may not be a good thing in the long term.
This is taking Brummie pessimism to new levels .

Of course the difference could be Nick Barton who must know easyjet very well.

We'll see what, if anything, happens.
We have a man who knows and is known by Easy and an unexpected window of opportunity.
If it does not happen this time i fully expect you delete the Easyjet thread Replace it with something reflecting all the effort
they put into things like sponsoring ballet and saving the planet.:)

With Easyjet due to launch BHX-GLA 13 weekly does anyone think that is the end of Flybe on the route? Especially now that people have a jet option over a prop?

dont think anyone knows what Flybe plans are for summer 2020 yet, with it being fully under Connect/Virgin ownership, might be lots of routes axed, or frequences dropped
Well I'd be surprised if they axed BHX-GLA as if they did I'd imagine the whole base would be under threat.

I can't recall what the BE frequency is on BHX/GLA but I would think more than twice daily, which is what U2 are in essence planning.

For the business community I think that frequency will overrule price.

I remember the same sort of discussion when Easy started BFS-BHX. Yet Flybe are still operating multi daily BHX-BHD flights and Easy have increased BFS flights. The demand is there but it has been to comfortable for some with no incentive to lower prices and meet that demand. I guess the problem is there are really only 2 airlines that serve the internal UK market and if one retreats its not great for the consumer.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
