From an external email that I had I believe they are in-house, but I'm not 100pc certain.

I knew Manchester airport security used to be in-house but I wasn't sure if it still was. I know companies such as Omniserv provide some aviation security subcontracted to provide secondary searching at the gate for some flights.

From a post on the Manchester thread in Dried Fruit:

Security is MAG employees, they control the number of security lanes, number of security staff and how many are for priority lanes or Joe Public. At other airports the security can either be done by the Airport Authority or Private Security like G4S. Border Force & the Police have nothing to do with the routine security searches of passengers and their cabin baggage. They’ll only become involved if the Security staff believe a crime has or is being committed.

Two weeks ago I flew on Aegean from MAN-ATH, which is a late flight out of term 1 on a Sat night, i have to say security experience was not good, there was only one belt operating which may have been ordinarily OK but for a PIA flight also operating which created a large number of passengers with hand luggage with incorrect items inside. We had to wait for a rejected bag because of a 100ml tube of prescribed ointment, so this was unnecessary. The area does not have much space and as a result, you had too many people waiting around with no social distancing going on.

Really the security staff must be used to this with PIA passengers and make extra provision to avoid this sort of scrum particularly with Covid19 situation which is not good in the NW in particular.

My next moan is on the return, I completed the passenger locator online form you must complete which the UK Gov require you to complete no more than 48 hours in advance, which I did and received the required reference you need to show on arrival, except no one asked to see it, not good !

I forgot to say I flew home ATH-ZRH-MAN

Whilst not at Manchester I have worked in a security environment with a PIA flight coming through. There are numerous problems in handling these kind of flights.

You tend to find passengers from the Pakistani community often speak very little English so communication is generally poor as is the understanding of the security requirements, and I'm guessing, now the covid-19 social distancing requirements.

Inevitably, like other airports Covid-19 will have severely impacted the staffing levels at the airport and I imagine the airport authority will be reluctant to draft additional staff in for one particular flight at a time when they need to be prudent with spending.

I can only take your word regarding the apparent lack of social distancing and if this is something you are concerned about you should probably contact the airport directly to ask them to review their procedures, especially when processing this particular flight.

I can't comment on the covid locator form as that will be an immigration matter and I don't know how that works.

The situation was affecting a number of passengers probably all on the Aegean flight like me i imagine, awaiting rejected bags, a lady I spoke to was finding it quite distressing .

I have completed the covid locator form once before, so was familiar with it, last time i arrived at LPL where border control asked to see it so i expected the same.

the target for UKBF checking PLFs is 30%. it never was the intention to try and check everyone.

Well if you prefer that the immigration queues become a lot longer and you have to wait for 1/2 hours I am sure they would check more.

Well they manage to do it in Athens, no one passes without their locator , worked well. It is only a case of showing the PDF on your phone.

Yes and it’s a bit pointless just showing the pdf. Unless they start questioning you and actually looking at the pdf how do they know you filled it in correctly? All of this takes time, and also rules out allowing use of e passport gates in the UK. It’s always a trade off between delays, resources, and checking.

The PLF and self isolation system in the UK is very much an honour system. If you prefer we can move to a rigorous checking and enforcement system but I can’t imagine anyone wants that.

So, the airport were doing their job properly for rightly rejecting non compliant bags at security? PIA pax travel with the kitchen sink. That’s not a MAN issue, it’s they passenger demographic.

So to clarify, you were not security compliant and again, like above, berating the airport for doing their job properly for singling out the fact you were not compliant?

There are a lot of staf on furlough, do we honestly expect MAN to absorb the cost of bringing staff back off furlough to handle one flight a week ‘better’? I think considering the situation travel is in, and bleeding cash like it’s wrists have been cut, your expectation were set far too high. But of course, if this was LPL then no doubt everything would have been dealt with perfectly in the palace that can do no wrong?

U.K. border is a Govt run organisation. Manchester as an airport has no say in its operation and practices. You are a seasoned travellers and your one who generally knows who runs what, so I think it’s being rather dishonest to make it seem like it’s Manchester Airport doing wrong here. I’m going to be really frank and bet that if this had happened at LPL, you wouldn’t have identified it as an issue.

I think to be safe is what passengers want in the end. With so few passengers travelling at present, it wouldn't cause much delay.

Yes they should know they travel with the kitchen sink..so thats why one belt is not sufficient obviously

You are allowed to travel with 100ml
