Watching - yes, holding breath - no. You have already got the Belfast and Newquay routes taken up by other operators, so could anyone honestly see them coming back over this side of the Pennines? They will almost certainly only be interested in BHX, LHR and MAN, where they hold slots.

I tend to agree with Bigman, I think it maybe difficult as other operators are picking up the routes that may make money and it all depends on what aircraft they get and of couse most European routes are a mess at the moment and the more I look at it the longer Covid it is going to last

I can't see FlyBe coming back here for the foreseeable. With routes been taken over by Aer Lingus and Eastern respecitvely. They've said they will be operating a smaller business plan but I wonder if they could possibly introduce a new route perhaps if they want to get the ball rolling at Leeds again?

They were definitely popular here and I hope they do come back in the near future. When I used them for both Belfast and Newquay I didn't have any problems at all and everything was fantastic. I am glad that they will be gracing the skies once more.

I haven't read into the schematics of what they are actually planning but are they using the same aircraft as before?

I wouldn't be surprised if new Flybe ends up taking over Stobart Air.

This won't be in the air quickly. Especially in this covid-19 world we currently live in.

Okay they have a brand and a website. But that needs a total refresh and meaning they will be starting from scratch.
Eastern Airways, Loganair, Aurigny, Blue Islands and Aer Lingus Regional have already snapped up most of the profitable services.

Flybe will need to get that AOC back from CAA, which could turn into a legal battle if they really want to them slots back at MAN & LHR.
Then they need some aircraft, which they don't currently own. Yes the are plenty of Dash 8s parked up dotted around Europe already in Flybe colours, but will the leasing companies want to get into contracts with already badly damaged brand?

Will be interesting to watch, that is for sure.

The 4 aircraft bay hangar and ex MRO business has being sold to "Dublin Aerospace" so what's to say the new Flybe will be based at Exeter?

Surely Eastern Airways would have reintroduce SOU-LBA-ABZ or done NQY-LBA-ABZ link if the was a business case for it. Or failing that Loganair would have come in by now a picked the route up

Whenever did logic stop Flybe? Do we really think things will be any different this time around? They may just need to look at something "different" as the old routes are generally snapped up by others. Looks like a resurrection is going to happen but who really knows in what form, not least of which will be determined by the staying power of this damn virus

Any airline wanting to be a serious player in UK domestic market will take on those old routes.

Interesting article from one of the analysis companies on Flybe's profitability this week. Link here

MAN-CDG, BHX-CDG, SOU-EDI/AMS/GLA/EGC/BHD and MAN-ABZ all in the top part of the list.

MAN-BHD/DUS, CWL-EDI/BHD/DUB, BHX-DUS and LCY-EDI all in the very bottom part of the list.

I think their research isn't too far off, although MAN-BHD in the year on which the report is based was caught in the crossfire of the easyJet/Ryanair war on MAN-BFS.

It underlines how strong SOU was and how weak CWL was. CWL-EDI average fare of 57.50 versus SOU-EDI at 83.20 despite almost identical load factors.

Personally I don't understand why they want to invoke the previously failed airline both in name and livery. I can't imagine there is much goodwill to try and trade off there. Is the whole proposition of the airline going to be the same as flybe as well?

I would have thought better to restart with a fresh name and livery, and try and offer something different to the consumer. Anything worth taking from the old flybe network has already been taken by LM, U2, and TS.

I like it and with specific reference to your comment @KARFA I would love to see former failed airline names back in the sky. Thomas Cook, Air Europe Monarch etc. People have fickle memories, and most people generally have fond memories of former airlines.

If everyone loved the former flybe so much and actually turned that in to traveling with them, they wouldn't have limped on for years and eventually failed. Clearly fond memories didn't really translate to passengers on seats and profit.

Sentiment has no place in business decisions unless there is some goodwill worth trading off, and I very much doubt there is here. Even worse if they intend to offer something different to flybe, then use of the previous name will only be confusing.

Of course sentiment shouldn't get in the way of business decisions but the question here is will using the name of a former airline along with similar branding impact the ability of a new business to develop a different and successful working airline. I don't believe it will especially as the former business ceased trading well over a year ago. The general public who will form the new passenger base for the new airline have all moved on, even in the event where some industry professionals haven't.

Not always for the better though. First's rail franchise for South West England and South Wales now has the brass neck to call itself Great Western Railway. Mentioning First in the same breath as the original iconic Great Western Railway is like me buying some paints and saying I'm the new Rembrandt.
