Part of the problem is that people arent familiar with Red Zones. They are common in London but not around here. No excuse for not knowing the highway code of course.

Drivers are fully aware of what double yellow lines mean, its clearly obvious that red lines are going to be more serious, the next level up! Road markings whatever they may well be are there for a reason!

Believe it or not when idiots park on double yellow lines and other dodgy places (eg within 10metres of a junc) it does make my job as an instructor far more difficult, you can clearly see in my field of work why road markings are in the places they are.

Commencing this weekend Transdev are increasing the frequency of its A1 Flyer service which links Leeds Bus & Rail Station to the Airport. Buses will operate every 20 mins Monday to Saturday daytime and every 30 mins on Sundays. Plus a late departure from Leeds will be added 00;39

The are also some timetable changes to the Flyer A2 service which links Bradford -Airport - Harrogate and the Flyer A3 service linking Bradford - Airport - Otley

The new East Leeds Orbital Road is nearing completion. The new junction just after Roundhay Park at Redhall shows all East bound motorway traffic directions. I think this will make motorway access considerably easier once open in just a few weeks.

I suppose its also worth mentioning the Greengates junction work is now complete which is significantly better than previously.

I suppose its also worth mentioning the Greengates junction work is now complete which is significantly better than previously.

I must admit they have done a fine job of the greengates juncs, it really does flow well mainly due to most approaches having 3 lanes, at first i wondered why they were having that little loop bit to it but it does work well. It looks decent too with the grass and trees in the centre.
Its interesting how many on the west side of leeds are unaware of the east orbital road as it is quite a large construction project that should take alot of traffic out of Crossgates and the top part of Seacroft, shame we dont have a road like that to LBA!

We never see investment in NEW roads like that in West Leeds. All we get is more bus & cycle lanes.

I'm hoping this time around that the planned road and junction changes on the Ring Road between Horsforth & Pudsey (Dawson's Corner) will improve the flow of traffic once completed.

The scary thing is that the orbital road in East Leeds will be almost at capacity when it opens.

Shame they couldn't do the same thing around this side of of Leeds to relieve some of the pressures. But when you get a gobby bigoted green communist councillor it's to be expected.

Another improvement? I know between Fink Hill/Toby Carvery Junction and the ring road roundabout at Esso (not a long stretch by anyones immigration) they are finally widening it to create an official two lane road (unofficially already there). But more room for improvements.

What they really could do with doing is creating tunnels that for the ring road so if your going straight on at Horsforth roundabout you go underground, under the roundabout and come out half way down the hill!

I understand that ELOR is opening next week and is included as part of the traffic management scheme to accommodate traffic attending the Leeds Festival. It is mentioned on the Festival website as a route for local traffic wishing to avoid Festival traffic.

Leeds City council. And clever. Are two phrases that should never be in the same sentence. They are useless at the best of times, have a lack of vision, common sense, and are one of the worst councils in the country.

I hope they have to allow for growth but I doubt they have. However with a higher speed limit, very few stop and starts, I suspect the traffic will flow nicely. And the relief will be on Seacroft, Cross gates etc.

I would love to know on what basis you can claim with such authority that Leeds City Council is one of the worst in the country? What evidence do you have and what are you comparing?

I can think of many councils which have far worse track records than Leeds with various services being classed as inadequate or even bring taken over by Central Government, and several of these are here in Yorkshire.

There's no doubt that Leeds has failed in the past to support LBA, but they have done for the past 30 years, approving every scheme submitted. They have failed more with regard to the transport system but much of the blame there lies with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority - itself flawed given that it's made up of Councillors who are fighting for their own towns and cities, and not necessarily for Leeds. The pace they do things is painful and I see nothing to suggest Tracey Brabin will improve that.

In other ways though Leeds Council has done a good job and far better than many Councils, despite regularly being targeted by the Government for greater funding cuts than similar sized cities. And whilst you take the view that Leeds Council is so bad, the fact is that Leeds remains a city that's rapidly attracting investment, new employers,creating work and with a continually expanding population that many City's would love to have.

Re the EDIT - the majority of the land between the new road and the existing built up area is to be developed with up to 5,000 new houses - the East Leeds Extension! The first area to be developed will be land between the A58 and A64.

The outer ring road was originally going to be dual carriage way, and if you look the land is within the curtilage of the present highway there is sufficient land without resorting to compulsory purchase. The section from Horsforth to Dawsons Corner is ripe for that.

that section wasnt really in need of duelling tho. It’s when you get further east up towards the seacroft roundabout where there are daily problems - but ELOR should significantly reduce that problem.

As much as we hate cycle lanes and the prospect of thousands of new homes. It is government policy and without change of direction or change of government we are stuck with it.
