[textarea]Liverpool Airport baggage handlers strike

Ground staff at Liverpool Airport staged a two-hour strike this morning in a row over compulsory redundancies. The Servisair workers walked out from 05:00 until 07:00 and are due to hold another two-hour stoppage starting at 19:15.

The GMB union said the action is in protest at plans for 47 compulsory redundancies at Servisair, which deals with airlines including Ryanair, Flybe and Wizz Air at the airport. The company has promised there will be no disruption to flights.

A further two-hour strike is also planned for Sunday at 16:00 followed by two more strikes on Monday (November 28). The GMB union said the pattern of strike action will be repeated in the weeks from November 30, and there will be a continuous ban on overtime.

Winter months have become very quiet at many UK airports in recent years. Servisair shouldn't have offered staff their positions on full-time contracts in the first place knowing they will only be required through the busy summer months. If the company is allowed to offload these staff, the chances are they will require new staff by March to cover the busy summer period.

On Tuesday 18 January we will be holding a Recruitment Day with partner organisations, recruiting for more than 200 jobs at the airport. The event will start at 10am and will be held in the terminal building. For more information, visit our website

Apparently there had been some delays in baggage arriving off flights when there is a shortage of handlers. Late night in particular.

The current IT outage is affecting the check in desks at Liverpool. Flights are operating normally , however check staff have had to revert to a manual system to process passengers .

Forgive me if I'm wrong but I think it is possibly DNATA where this particular problem is. Not necessarily their fault though as I understand there has been a wider Microsoft problem.

I read a report elsewhere , the handling agents are Swissport and DHL. I've never heard that DNATA have a presence at Liverpool.

DNATA aren't a handling agent, they're a data handling company which I believe Swissport use.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
