Pioneering simulations pave the way for routine drone flights in the UK The prospect of remotely piloted drones operating in and out of some of the UK’s busiest airports has taken a step closer to reality following a series of pioneering simulations by Project CAELUS and the air traffic management service, NATS. The simulations, run at NATS’ head office in Hampshire, demonstrated how drones could be seamlessly integrated alongside other air traffic at a busy airport. This included drone operators filing flight plans, flying in and out of the airport and being safely deconflicted with...

Birmingham airport implements electronic flights progress strips Birmingham Airport has implemented a new flight data display system within its Air Traffic Control Tower to further enhance how it handles the hundred thousand flights per year that operate in and out of the Airport. Electronic Flight Progress Strips (EFPS) have replaced the old paper-based system that Air Traffic Controllers used to monitor and track the progress for each flight operating in and out of Birmingham Airport. The main benefits of EFPS include safety nets to assist controllers in detecting potential...

I think a lot of people, including many not normally interested in aviation, would like to see a Concorde fly again. I'm not concerned which Concorde took to the air but I suspect the more time goes by the less likely it is, and there didn't seem too much chance once the decision had been taken to ground the French and British fleets permanently. It was generally believed that the most likely candidate would be G-BOAF, the last Concorde to be built in Britain and the last Concorde ever to fly - so far!! AF returned to her place of birth at Filton but then spent seven years in the open...
