Remembering D-Day and the airfield’s important role on that historic day Millions of people across the world will paused on Thursday 6th June to commemorate the 80th anniversary of D-Day. On June 6, 1944, allied forces stormed the beaches of northern France in a bid to retake occupied Europe from the Nazis. London Stansted, George Washington Field, as it was known then, played a significant role during World War Two, no more so than on that day. As the ninth largest US Air Force base in East Anglia, the airfield was home to the 344th Bomb group, known as the 'Silver Streaks'...

For me personally Cardiff Airport helped me gain my love of aviation and travel and helped me see my country in a different light and opened my eyes to what the world has to offer. A brief history What is now...

This is my review of my trip to the Rugby World Cup in Nantes that I took between 6/10/23 and 9/10/23. This was for Wales final group game with Georgia, and I also went to Japan v Argentina game. I made my way down from Leeds where I live on the 5/10/23 and stayed overnight at the Celtic International hotel which was on the approach road to the airport and was a decent place to stay for the night. After killing some time on Friday, I got to the airport to park my car just after 3pm and headed into the terminal to meet one of the Gulliver’s Sports reps for my group. We were flying with...

Yesterday i used Cardiff to do a day trip to Berlin to do some plane spotting at Tegel airport. My flight from Cardiff was at 10.10 with Flybe on an E175. I got to the airport about 08.45 which was a bit later than i thought i would be arriving as i got stuck in traffic on the A4232 on the way to the airport. I'd already checked in online and i was hand luggage only so i was able to head straight to security but i did notice how busy in general the check in area was. Security was pretty quick with the new machines better than the old ones and i believe making the whole thing quicker and 2...

I think a lot of people, including many not normally interested in aviation, would like to see a Concorde fly again. I'm not concerned which Concorde took to the air but I suspect the more time goes by the less likely it is, and there didn't seem too much chance once the decision had been taken to ground the French and British fleets permanently. It was generally believed that the most likely candidate would be G-BOAF, the last Concorde to be built in Britain and the last Concorde ever to fly - so far!! AF returned to her place of birth at Filton but then spent seven years in the open...

What is the smallest airport you have flown from? For me it was the Bristol and Gloucestershire Gliding Club at Nympsfield in the Cotswolds above the Severn Vale near Stroud in Gloucestershire. My first and so far only glider trip was in a Schleicher KA-13 which was towed into the air and the pilot, who was brave enough to let me 'have a go' for few minutes, kept us circling, riding the thermals for nearly an hour. More recently I was taken up in a Tiger Moth from what is perhaps pretentiously called Torquay Airport in Victoria, Australia. It's a grass strip but the company running it...
