Of course BA have plenty of
spare aircraft, ...

Do they indeed? This is why they have been cancelling at least half a dozen flights every day over the last few weeks and are still doing Finnair & Air Belgium wet leases this summer for LHR routes :)

British Airways plans to increase London Heathrow - Las Vegas to up to twice daily during the summer season. An additional flight BA171 will depart at 12:10 on selected days.
BA has also confirmed the following frequency increases for the summer 2025 season:
Austin: 6 to 13 flights a week
Miami: 7 to 14 flights a week
Pittsburgh: 6 to 7 flights a week
Vancouver: 7 to 14 flights a week (peak season)
Washington Dulles: 14 to 21 flights a week

My sister is off too Las Vegas from Heathrow with British Airways. Had a delay of over 2 hours (1600 departure but actual 1810). Looks like they had problems with the engine on the A350 operating the route. Judging by the photo I'm guessing the boarding is via a bus gate. But she's airborne and on her way now. Interesting that it's Kuala Lumpur and not Singapore like the Sydney flight is.

NEW ROUTE

British Airways - London Heathrow to Melbourne (via Kuala Lumpur). Flights start 9 January 2027

BA33 LHR 2110-1805+1 KUL 1945+1-0650+2 MEL (Daily)

BA34 MEL 1635-2135 KUL 2315-0520+1 LHR (Daily)

That would involve a 3rd daily flight to Singapore as the other aircraft going to SIN on the other daily flight is a B77W - to big for MEL.

Having both B77W continue onto MEL and SYD would probably involve another two B777W which isn't laying around at the moment. Or downgrading the B777W SIN to a B789 thus loss of seat capacity.

You either need to grow the SIN market to 3 daily flights with the continuation onto MEL and SYD with a B77W and B789 or like here go somewhere else if you want to keep one as the terminator service in SIN.

The other factor in decision - yield and revenue. Clearly KUL is sufficient on its own to operate to. Adding on the sector to MEL will make it even more profitable.

If they were to add a 3rd daily flight to SIN it would dilute the yield, revenue and profit of the SIN operation - just so they can do SIN-MEL and SIN-SYD. SIN-MEL is covered by one world partner Qantas also.

KUL clearly is a good decision plus the ability to sell seats on KUL-MEL-KUL without been in a particularly crowded market.

Maybe with all that is going on; the Kangaroo route maybe making a resurgence. At long last.

If I remember correctly Malaysia Airlines is a OneWorld carrier so maybe there's some more connecting options. Without Doha they have more limited options.

As per BA’s media release yesterday, flights from Heathrow to Doha, Dubai and Tel Aviv are now cancelled up to and including 30 June 2026.
British Airways will add a 2nd daily flight from London Heathrow to Nairobi from 1 June:

BA63 LHR 19:35 - NBO 06:50
BA62 NBO 09:45 - LHR 17:05

BA will add a 2nd daily flight to Bengaluru from the same date:

BA131 LHR 09:55 - BLR 00:40
BA130 BLR 02:40 - LHR 08:55

Interesting video about BAs new service from St Louis. Its the inaugural flight and St Louis airport did quite a spread for it.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
