  • just about thawed out from a trip to MAN. Beats me how my family did daytrips there in the 70s and 80s when there was nothing to see!
seem to have chosen wisely in being on holiday this week, with the wind and flooding in Greater Manchester causing transport problems

It's known as only having 5 days off in the 1st half of the year! Only get the 20 days despite being at the same place for over 6 years.
Baked a cake for the 1st time in 35 years yesterday. None of my co-workers complained when I took it in for them to sample!
so the Met Office is warning of severe cold this winter. I'd like to believe them but they can't even get day to day forecasts correct

LOL I know what you mean but the met office long range prediction is only based on the general weather conditions, they're not saying there's going to be loads of snow although there could be.
Is is a blessing or a curse that the National Trust can't wait to see your photos of their properties?

They're not cheap to visit but they are beautiful.

Forking out every time is expensive but just had my 1 year anniversary as a member. £5.25/month (individual member fee). Think its £9/mth for family. free parking and free entry so just need to do 3 or 4 visits in the year to get value for money.

I don't know if it's still the case but I was once told the Aus version worked out cheaper. Probably not with the state of the £££ at the moment.
4 trips done with 2 to go. 47 miles walked whilst hauling camera equipment & provisions. Highlight today was a rainbow over Fountains Abbey

Great times. My weekly 'long walk' (up to 15 miles) is pencilled in for tomorrow, Tuesday - probably in the Mendip Hills. This autumn has been so co-operative for 'off-piste' walking.

Fountains abbey is beautiful as are the grounds it sits in. It not too far from LBA either.
BBC reporting that owning an iPhone 7 at some organisations in China means you get sacked. Be funny if that policy comes over here

Walking in any city centre is now like driving. People walking, heads down into their mobiles. I sometime shout out beep beep to avoid a head-on pedestrian v pedestrian collision. What are they all doing on their mobiles that's so important?

The only time I'm looking at my mobile is when I'm walking to a place I've not been before just to confirm I'm heading in the right direction
Yay! Brother's back in the UK from Yellowstone. 1200 photos for me to not see (still not seen his photos from our Iceland trip last year)

I always judge the quality of a holiday on the number of photos. If he's done the same he must have had a good holiday!

i hate looking at my own holiday fotos, never mind other peoples... dreadful bore..
Taking fotos spoils the moment for me, i prefer to live the moment and remember it, rather than take fotos to try and prove i had a moment, whilst missing it in reality

Can see the merit in that but I've just been looking at one of my albums on facebook. I've had zero notifications regarding it but it's been shared 19 times including by Scarborough Castle and with 180 likes.; one of the photos I tweeted and a holiday company used it to promote their holiday cottages. Part of what I do is to just get out the message that you don't need to be in London to see the sights in the UK
Today's rain around Windermere has made up for the last 4 days! Saturated. End of today it will be 47 miles walked in 5 days

The scenery at the Lakes is often at it's best when it's raining. A hot bath or shower followed by an alcoholic drink usually puts the world to right at the end of the day.

I wish it was straight forward as indicated in my statuses! I did Coniston then Caerphilly then Windermere. Been getting up at 4.30am and getting back to my flat after midnight!

Great walking country but not if it means getting up at half past four in the morning.:)
Happy travels to my brother. Off on Delta's LHR- Salt Lake City service for a 2 week trip in and around Yellowstone National Park
Last time I see my brother for a month.. he's off on a nice walking tour of Yellowstone. Hopefully there'll be no eruption when he's there!

Just imagined hearing your comment in the style of Private Fraser from Dad's Army!
So my back pain could have been dislocated hip. Heard hip click in place and pain reduced a lot. I'd make a world class doctor!
In excruciating back pain. Just applied deep heat and now feel like calling the fire brigade as my back's burning up.

Very sorry to hear that. My wife has suffered from osteoporosis for several years. One of the bones in her spine is crushed and at times the pain is severe - at best it's always there nagging away. She still manages to be active though and has a big garden that she tends, and manages some longish walks. It's something that affects women more than men but men can suffer from osteoporosis.

Nothing as serious as that. Tweaked it getting out of bed and then twice when the bus I was on decided to go a couple of jolts - once as I was getting up off my seat and the next when I was in midstep down the stairs. It's standing still for a couple of hours that nearly always generates pain.
"Crystal Palace defender Damien Delaney has said new signing Christian Benteke 'is not Lionel Messi'" Really? Does Palace know that?
