With BHX having signed a "multi-year agreement" with Ryanair, a growing relationship with easyjet (hopefully a base on the medium horizon??) and the constraint growth of Jet2, T2 switch to more 737/320 stands seems wise
Do these stand changes mean the A321 too as part of the ‘A320’ family ? As EasyJet and Jet2 have both, although to a lesser amount with the A321, at the moment, for each. Likely BHX will remain a B737 base for the foreseeable future while Jet2 build up A321s at MAN.

Hopefully larger T2 stands will allow Jet2 to eventually move the whole operation across and be completely self contained in that terminal.
Yes I think this is the plan.
However I'm concerned that there appears to be no plans to restart the lounge baggage hall extension anytime soon started then mothballed when Covid hit.
I'm hoping that this is due to work currently underway to start the new security area all airports under govt plans have to have inplace by 2024.
The longer it is left after this completion the more money its going to cost to restart.
If Easyjet did announce a base next year( no info they will) quickly the belts and lounge are going to start to reach capacity.
As it is the 10yr master plan is a pale shadow of the one before. It is only really a £500 million refit of the current terminal, small lounge extension and a few more remote stands.
Great to reconfigure stands around old Eurohub but surely the terminal is going to need bigger expansion over thr next decade too.

I attach the ambitious previous masterplan drawing from BHX then the current one for 2018 if you can call that a proper masterplan..

Many thanks for that top image, very interesting. I never knew they were considering a second new pier in the style of the 2009 pier!

You can note looking at the plan closely ,it also included a remote pier between the 70s and 80s stands, and a low cost pier running adjacent to the back of the railway track too.

Wow, I remember that old master plan.

I always thought it a shame that the one with the satellite pier never came to fruition, even without the underground walkway it would have been a great addition.

The current 2018 plan shows the parallel taxiway finally running full length along with some extra stands at the end of T2 and at the end of the pier. I find it quite disappointing that the stands next to the fire station were not included though, I'd have thought this a relatively easy way of adding a few more.

I've seen plans in the past that contain an extension to T2 which could be a good thing if Jet2 are potentially to take over. Hopefully it's omission from the 2018 plan means that in the medium term it's days are numbered, maybe to eventually be replaced by something like what is shown in the top picture.

All those yellow planes in the first one? Did someone think Spirit Airlines were going to open a base at BHX?!

I remember the plans for the satellite pier with the underground walkway. Did I dream it or was there a model of the proposed layout once in the viewing gallery?

HiRay, what is odd is that there is no mention of the new stands

Hi Ray,
It's fair to say that the master plan booklets would have a "see me" marked in red at the bottom if at school lol.
As even though there is no sign of those remote stands in thr main booklet drawing or mentioned in the booklet. They appear in a yellow shaded area on a small plan in the book.Along with a new bussing lounge end of Eurohub 🙄🙈
I attach that small plan below ;

New remotes by fire station are marked 4 on this plan, and the bussing lounge infront of Eurohub is shown as an orange box.

Hey, been viewing these forums for a number of years.. never posted before so go easy 🙂.

I’m just curious if anyone in the know has any clues as to what airport management plan to do with the South Terminal ?

I’ve seen various rumours and talk of work being done on the exterior to accommodate Jet2 in the summer but as of yet seen nothing being done, given it is months into the winter season and summer is approaching fast. Does anyone know why only a handful of Jet2 flights actually depart from these gates even though the majority of their aircraft are parked on the remotes and around the south terminal?.

A friend of mine works in All Bar One in this terminal and I’m told some days are quite desperate and not helped with the fact most of the time the Jet2 flights departing Gates 1-20 don’t appear on the departure boards as in the south terminal until it is boarding, purposely keeping pax in T1 until the last minute is surely not in the benefit of the concessions open in South Terminal.. I flew jet2 in December and all the screens said Gates 40-68 until it said Gate 2 open. I had gone to the South Terminal anyway as the friend of mine had access to an airport app that gives the Gate number a week in advance so I knew already the gate I would be at, but everyday passengers would not know this. If this app can publish this information 7 days in advance I don’t see why the departure boards can’t reflect this information

Thank you.

Welcome to the forum :)

I believe that stand reconfiguration is about to start, if it hasn't already.

I believe you were correct, today I’ve noticed only gates 1-3 in use and the rest of the gates around South Terminal are blocked off. Some activity happening in regards to moving equipment away from the gates and a large lorry on the apron 😀

The remotes marked 4 (if they happen at all, as not on the main final drawing on the masterplan booklet) were 10 years away, before Covid. So add another 2 years onto that with our current passengers numbers below 2018 levels.
There is not even a new date set yet for the restart of the mothballed loungge/baggage haul extension they started before Covid.
Be in my zimmer before 4 starts..

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
