Eastern launches Oslo route

Eastern Airways has begun operating services from Aberdeen Airport to the Norwegian capital Oslo.

The UK regional airline, which is based at Humberside Airport, has launched daily flights to the destination, with week-day services departing Aberdeen at 10.20am and arriving in Oslo at 1.05pm local time and Sunday services leaving at 12.20am and landing at 3.05pm.

The schedule, which will be flown by a 50-seat Saab 2000 aircraft, will not operate on Saturdays. Graeme Ross, Eastern Airways' Scotland director, believes that the service will help to "further strengthen business links" between Norway's largest city and Aberdeen.

He said: "Oslo is an extremely busy airport offering many internal connections within Norway while our UK services from Aberdeen provide Norwegian travellers with connectivity options."

Occupying land at the arc of a fjord, Oslo is Scandinavia's third largest city and one of the most expensive in the world.

[textarea]Eastern to launch new Norway flights from Newcastle and Aberdeen

Eastern Airways is to launch additional flights to Stavanger from Aberdeen and Newcastle. Aberdeen gains new flights from 5 October, while Newcastle gains a new Sunday service from 11 October. The enhanced services will be introduced at the same time as Eastern Airways’ new flights from Aberdeen and Newcastle to Bergen.

New additional early morning flights from Stavanger to Aberdeen will operate between Monday and Thursday, leaving Stavanger at 07:30 and arriving in Aberdeen at 07:50 local time. On Mondays to Wednesdays a new evening service will leave Aberdeen at 18:30, arriving in Stavanger at 20:50.

Newcastle will gain an additional Sunday service, leaving Newcastle at 16:00, arriving in Stavanger at 18:50 local time. The return flight departs Stavanger at 19:30 and arrives in Newcastle (via Aberdeen) at 21:15.

Chris Holliday, Eastern Airways’ chief operating officer, said: ‘Combined with the introduction of our new services to Bergen from Aberdeen and Newcastle, the extra flights to Stavanger demonstrate our commitment to developing routes between the UK and Norway.'

From the second week in February Eastern appears to be rationalising some of its routes following its purchase of Air Southwest.

From the timetables of ASW and Eastern the morning PLH-BRS-LBA-BRS-PLH will be replaced by a southbound ABZ-LBA-BRS-PLH (a Dash-8-300 operation) working opposite a northbound PLH-BRS-LBA-ABZ (a Dash 8-300 operation). The same will apply in the evening.

The current morning and evening Eastern ABZ-BRS-ABZ (an Eastern Jetstream operation) will be incorporated into the new diagram. The lunchtime ABZ-BRS-ABZ will remain a non-stop Jetstream in both directions.

Currently it doesn't appear possible to book from Plymouth to Aberdeen or vice versa and the ASW website still shows PLH-BRS-LBA (and reverse) as an Air Southwest route whilst the Eastern website shows the ABZ-LBA-BRS portion as an Eastern route.

Had it confirmed today that Eastern Airways will be taking over and operating the Bristol-Leeds-Aberdeen service from October 2nd 2011.

Flights should be bookable on the Eastern Airways website shortly. The service will continue to be operated by the Dash 8-300's,

The Eastern booking website has shown flights in each direction between BRS and ABZ morning and evening with one stop - presumably LBA - for a little while, on test dates in October (the rest of the summer after Air Southwest ceases to operate) and in November, the start of the winter period. The equipment is a Dash 8-300. The non-stop early afternoon ABZ-BRS-ABZ operated by an Eastern Jetstream also continues into the winter on selected days each week.

The BRS-LBA section was always bookable of course as an Air Southwest flight in that airline's booking engine even though the same aircraft operated onto ABZ in the Eastern booking section. This always seemed complicated to me and likely to confuse some passengers. Why didn't they show BRS-LBA-ABZ as being bookable in both the ASW and Eastern booking engines? I suppose it was to do with route licences.

It seems the ABZ-LBA-BRS route will cease from 19 April though the ABZ-LBA leg is still bookable after that date so seems set to continue.

No doubt the ABZ-BRS bmi regional jet service has taken its toll.

Due to a crew shortage Eastern Airways are to a leased CRJ200 from Backbone Aviation which will operate some of Aberdeen to Newcastle - Cardiff flights starting from September 1st running until December. The aircraft will operate Mon-Fri as follows.

MON, TUE, WED, THU
EZE4032 = CWL 08:25 – NCL 09:50 / NCL 10:15 – ABZ 11:20
EZE4095 = ABZ 16:15 – NCL 17:10 / NCL 17:35 – CWL 19:00

FRI
EZE4032 = NCL 11:00 – ABZ 12:00
EZE4035 = ABZ 13:05 – NCL 14:00 / NCL 14:25 – CWL 15:40
EZE4094 = CWL 16:05 – NCL 17:20 / NCL 17:45 – CWL 18:45
EZE4039 = ABZ 19:40 – NCL 20:35

Meanwhile a BAe Jetstream 32 is been leased from AIS Airlines which will be operating all flights Aberdeen to Durham Tees Valley (Teeside) flights from the same dates.

Eastern Airways from May 2018 is adding Aberdeen – London City service, which sees the airline operates up to 2 daily flights on weekdays, with Saab 2000 aircraft. This will assume existing flight operated by flyBe Dash8-Q400 aircraft, effective 07MAY18.

Full schedule here

No it's not. I'm sure there will be more route culling on the way. I wonder if LCY could be next?

Seems like they are on a one way street unfortunately however there is a need for some routes they operate with the equipment they use if they were to go the way of Primera at some point it would leave some routes unserved that realistically only BMI or Loganair could serve if they had the aircraft.

Eastern Airways have just announced it is temporary suspending the recently introduced Aberdeen to Birmingham route. Flights will recommence from Monday, March 23rd

Also the following flights will be cancelled next week.

Mon 16th = EZE7661/7662 Aberdeen-Wick-Aberdeen
Tue 17th = EZE7661/7662 Aberdeen-Wick-Aberdeen & EZE7641/7642 Aberdeen-Humberside-Aberdeen
Wed 18th = EZE7641/7642 Humberside-Aberdeen-Humberside & EZE7661/7662 Aberdeen-Wick-Aberdeen
Thu 19th = EZE7661/7662 Aberdeen-Wick-Aberdeen

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
