Low cost airline bmibaby has announced it will commence flying from George Best Belfast City Airport to Manchester, Birmingham, Cardiff and East Midlands Airport from 10 January 2011 as it transfers it's operation to the city airport from neighbouring Belfast International.

Following the closure of the Manchester and Cardiff bases in the coming autumn the aircraft will be redistributed.

BHD will become a 2-aircraft base and will operate a summer 2012 programme to Malaga, Alicante, Palma, Faro and Ibiza, as well as a year-round service to Amsterdam, and new flights to Geneva for winter 2011.

Below is the Summer 2012 bmibaby timetable for Belfast City Airport.

Early indications show (unless the times change) that one of the planes swaps twice a day. Both the EMA & BHD planes leaves their relevent airport at 07:00 and land at 08:05 and then the plane that lands at belfast has a 25 minute turn around for the next flight out. In the afternoon, it seems that the inbound plane lands at 16:05 (BHD based that went to EMA in the morning) and then the plane that came into BHD from EMA in the morning is ready to go back to EMA with 16:10 departure - 5 mins for crew to swap planes.

If this is their plan then their could be some lengthy delays/ cancellations happening if one plane goes tech etc.

Not good news to report.

But its been rumoured this afternoon that low cost airline bmi baby will be closed down by IAG in September. This will hit Belfast City Airport quite hard as they currently have 2x based aircraft and are the only major low cost airline operating from the Airport to European destinations.

No longer a rumour. As it's just now been confirmed that bmi baby will be closed down in September by it's new owners IAG.

And it really bad news for its Belfast operation. As all bmi baby routes operated from Belfast City Airport will all be cancelled from Monday 11th June 2012.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
