Hi there all, it's just been announced on BBC news that flybe will go into admin with in hours, very sad indeed, by god, I hope that Branson has sern this with stobart air and Cyrus investments, because those three companies have caused flybes collapse, well done Mr Branson, hope he's proud of what he's done... It’s so scary to think Birmingham is losing the biggest Airline we ever have . I’m off on an all expenses paid trip with my University Aviation & Airports Management course to Amsterdam next Wednesday and our flights are have been booked with KLM, Thank God our university didn’t book flights with FlyBe in a way it’s a blessing in disguise otherwise trouble for the University as well as all of us Students who are going.

First and foremost awful news and thoughts go out to all the staff. With many airlines having frozen recruitment due to Coronavirus, it won't be easy finding new work.

Whilst yes its bad news for BHX, spare a thought for Southampton, Belfast City & Exeter airports where Flybe operate 95%, 80% and 78% respectively.

Southampton airport will only have flights to Alderney and Guensey, with a seasonal flight to Geneva, whereas Belfast City will be left with flights to Heathrow, Amsterdam, Carlisle and Dundee. Suspect those airports will have little choice but to lay off a large proportion of their workforce.

Very sad day indeed.

very very sad day for UK regional flying, and the staff at Flybe.

I've no idea how many uk regional routes will actually be taken up by other airlines, i guess 10% if we are lucky, the last few weeks the likes of Ryanair, Easyjet and BA have said they would be interested in taking up some of these routes, well lets see in a years time how many they take up, mmmm... so are we left with Stobart, Loganair, Eastern and Aurigny to keep the regions flying? not looking good

RIP Flybe, you will be missed

Branson will never put his money into risk. He lives in tax exile for Pete's sake. The only good thing he has ever done is letting Mike Oldfield have a Grand Piano etc.

Good riddance that Virgin will never tarnish the apron of BHX.

It is the staff I feel most for. They have stood loyal when wave after wave of bad publicity has been thrown at them time and time again.

Sadly this will not be the last. The British airline industry is in meltdown. Maybe even Virgin will be in trouble soon.

What are the chances of Berlin, Milan, Paris & Amsterdam being taken on by other airlines in the short term? With excess capacity because of weakened demand due to coronavirus, this does mean there are available aircrafts and teams... They just need to be redeployed at BHX

But also the collapse of flybe was also caused by Birmingham City Council, plus the other 6 west Midlands councils that own the other 49.25 % in the airport, as they own the airfield at Birmingham Airport, they are responsible for demanding high landing charges, so let's wait a hear sympathy from those councils that they are sorry to hear the sad news about flybe, when they have caused it as well, hope they are satisfied also in what they have caused another to go bust at Birmingham Airport and put thousands more on the dole, hope they are happy with what they have done.. Andyc

The current problems airline companies are facing with reduced demand will hopefully give them a couple of weeks to take stock of the situation and plan sensibly where they go next the region's need connecting back up in what form that may end up being who knows but something will have to be done yet again an airline has failed however it's failure has far wider reaching effects than just airline staff being affected.

what was the contract between BHX and Flybe? How much were they paying?

I wouldn't put any money on them being filled until after Coronavirus is over, Milan especially.

With just 2 cases so far reported in Brazil, Virgin has postponed the launch of their Sao Paulo service until October (was meant to start at the end of this month).

If a flight is being postponed to a county with that few cases currently, why would any airline announce new routes between European countries with much higher cases.

Unless Coronavirus is sorted within the next couple of months (unlikely at best), 2020 will probably see the biggest drop in global passenger numbers since the 2008 financial crash - last I checked (a week ago) air travel in/to/from China was down 80%.

Branson has a lot less to do with Virgin that you think he is really a figure head and leaves the finalcials to others

Hi there Mullion, whether it's Branson or other person, those ones, should hold there head in shame of what they have done, they're not fit to be given that authority to make decisions that causes to happy, they should also be made to pay for the damage they have caused, and not get away with it.. Not all people will simply stop flying because Of corona virus though. BHX desperately needs to re-establish those lost routes even if it is a reduced frequency compared to Flybe.

I just hope you are wrong and we can get those European connections back

It would be beneficial business, economically and meeting needs of Brexit to allow British Airways to make a come back to Birmingham International Airport - (It sad Sir Richard Brandson - did not save Flybe as promised FLY Virgin Connect) a very sad night Good Night Every One.

There are just no words :(

Without question, thoughts are with those unfortunate employees who have lost their employment through the collapse of Flybe. For them, life is going to be tough until they find alternative work.

The collapse of Flybe has created a mess: point-to-point travellers being probably the most numerous, but others such as myself who use Flybe as a means of beginning long distance travel are also affected.

I am due to fly to Paris on March 16 at 0635 on AF5019, before transitting onto AF0462 for Rio de Janeiro. The big problem is that AF5019 was due to be operated by Flybe. My ticketing was all arranged with KLM with whom i will be returning to Birmingham via Amsterdam. I do not want to cancel this trip, so where do i stand?

I have never been in this position before and apart from immediately making contact with KLM (who issued all my tickets) and asking for their assistance in re-routing my outward section via Amsterdam, i really don't know where i stand.

There is more than a week in which to sort this out, but for those who have more knowledge of this kind of problem, is there any advice fellow posters/experts can give me.

I would be very grateful for any help...

You raise an interesting point Richard which is parallel to someone on the South West News this morning. That person had bought tickets from Exeter to Paris with Air France, but on a Flybe flight. Surely Air France or in your instance KLM have obligations. Flybe are their proxy but they gained from that relationship in terms of ticket sales and income.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
