[textarea]Drunk teenager wanders on to Prestwick Airport runway

A drunk teenager scaled a nine-foot fence then raced across the runway at Prestwick Airport - thinking it was a short cut to catch a cab, the Sunday Mail reports. Michael Elder, 17, thought he was taking a short cut to a taxi rank through the yard of a DIY store after a boozy party. He ended up causing a major security alert on the runway of Prestwick Airport.

His lawyer Tony Currie said: ‘Mr Elder hadn't a clue where he was and in fact he told me he thought he was in the yard of B&Q - which is about a mile and a half away. The fence is nine feet high with barbed wire so how he got over it is a mystery. He was caught on CCTV as he ran across the runway.'

Mr Elder admitted trespassing. Sheriff Colin Miller asked if he had been drinking before the mix-up. His lawyer said: ‘Very much so.’ Sheriff Miller branded his behaviour as ‘daft boy syndrome’. He deferred sentence on Elder for three months for good behaviour.

The pilot of the Boeing 737-800 was shocked and momentarily blinded by the green laser being shone into the cockpit. The newspaper reports that the culprits may have been as far away as Prestwick using a strong laser.

The annoying thing is that you can still buy them freely in the shops. I know that if someone is determined to get hold of a laser pointer they will but in the majority of cases they must be impulse purchase for gadget type shops. If they banned the sale of these devises many of these scares would stop. In the meantime we wait for an accident to happen and we all say we told you so.

The BBC has reported that Police were called to a Ryanair aircraft today after passengers caused disruption on an aircraft because of delays due the French ATC strike. Apparently the Police bought the passengers chocolate and water to calm them down.

[textarea]In flight cigarette cost passenger £500

A single cigarette cost a passenger on a flight to Prestwick Airport £500, after he admitted lighting up in the toilet of a plane. Jacek Kramarz, 41, was a passenger on a flight from Rome to Prestwick.

Ayr Sheriff Court was told that crew members became suspicious after spotting smoke coming from a toilet after he had used it. When challenged, Mr Kramarz claimed that when he went to the toilet there was already a smell of smoke and his craving got the better of him. He admitted that he had lit up a cigarette in the tiny cubicle, despite it being dangerous and illegal.

Police boarded the flight when it landed at Prestwick Airport and Mr Kramarz was arrested and held in the cells. He pleaded guilty to acting in a reckless manner on July 5 likely to endanger the aircraft by exposing it to fire or explosion.

Reading back through this thread, Prestwick seems to get more than it's fair share of idiots flying from the airport. Is there something in the water? :shok:

49 trips undertaken last year. First done this year which was to North Wales where surprisingly the only slippery surfaces were in Conwy with the castle and it's walls closed due to the ice.
