Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

A poster on another forum is saying that HUY is currently in talks with Monarch re routes from the airport.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Take with a pinch of salt. He has not been correct on anything thus far.

By the sound of it he means replacing jetXtras routes, however Im pretty sure that when Nexus failed all affected passengers were rebooked on Monarch from MAN. This could be the case again, and somethings probably been lost in translation.

That said, if he is actually right for once t hg en Monarch would be a coup for the airport.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Monarch are slowly showing an interest in smaller regional airports, as they grow their airline further.

They are starting to venture away from; Manchester, Birmingham, Luton and Gatwick, all the typical MON/ZB base's and are slowly moving into; Bristol, Newcastle etc.

Humberside seems a relatively good airport to commence a few 'W' routes from... let's hope this time the rumours are correct... there is definitely the passenger base surrounding HUY, that has been proven!

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

A return to growth is much overdue, so something like this would be massive news. The problem is that I would think it too late to announce anything for this year now, and the rumour is that this will replace jetXtra who were due to commence operations on 1st May. Certainly ALC would also be possible on a W pattern, but I would think the chances of them setting up a crew base at an airport like HUY are slim to none.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Monarch are suggesting tgat ten routes will be announced in the next few weeks, citing the importance of airports being able to play a large part in getting bums on seats, as important as tge deals on tge table.

I wonder if the rumours of HUY being in talks with Monarch will come to.anything?

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

They of course are probably refering to non UK airports but we can hope. There are rumours of ZB at HUY, added to that tge airline are to see sime fleet expansion, so even just a replacement for ALC or AGP initially would be a step in the right direction. However, I just dont see anything new coming about until next summer 13, so perhaps its a bit optimistic to expect an announcement soon.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Olympic Holidays has strengthened its summer 2012 offering in signing a new deal with Aegean Airlines to provide flights on key routes this summer.

The first routes announced are Birmingham to Cyprus, Humberside to Crete, Belfast to Cyprus, Belfast to Rhodes: more routes are planned.

“says Photis Lambrianides, Olympic Holidays’ commercial director. This additional capacity is good news for travellers in the regions, as these islands are our top selling destinations and there is pent-up local demand,”

“We’re particularly pleased to be working with Aegean Airlines this year. Their Airbus A320s are modern planes, and Aegean Airlines’ excellent on-board service includes a free meal with wine or beer for all holidaymakers on Olympic flights.”

Aegean Airlines is the largest scheduled airline in Greece and operates a fleet of 29 modern aircraft, with an average age of four years, serving European destinations.

Its fleet of Airbus A320 aircraft is equipped with the latest navigational and safety aids, each with comfortable scheduled-airline configuration for 168 passengers.

Olympic Holidays package prices using Aegean Airlines flights start from £259 per person to Crete from Humberside, for seven nights’ self-catering in Elounda (twin share).

We already knew Aegean would be taking over the HER flights, but its always good to see a press release. Hopefully this will offer HUY and Olympic some stability, not really been seen (in my opinion) since the Cypriot Government folded Eurocypria.

Perhaps we may again see the second weekly HER next year, along with a return to the full season flights to LCA next year too?

The article you link posted is no longer available but Google is still showing it under Monarch Airlines news and the headline indicates new winter destinations?

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Yes I suspect most will be just winter destinations from current UK airports, however their criteria for new airports seems to fit well with HUY. Particularly the 'willingness of an airport to help fill flights', HAT have a proven track record of doing that, and are themselves still growing.

All I'm saying is that there are rumours of ZB and HUY being in discussions, highly likely that something has been talked about seeing as though all airline deals are brokered at MAN these days. Add to that the above and HUY may have a chance in the future if they decide to go for more regional growth.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Looks like JetXtra have given up on the idea of launching flights from Humberside. There's been no sign of anything on the company website now for months.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

I think its been the case for months. Not great news but better than them starting up and letting passengers down at a later date.

Rumour on dried fruit suggesting that Richard Lake has bought HUY and the surrounding land. Probably wild rumours but would be interesting if true.

That would be the owner of Eastern Airways to anybody who didn't know.

Re: Humberside Airport - Thread

Thanks Aviador I forgot to add that.

As I have posted elsewhere, still nothing on sale from Thomas Cook for Summer 2013. This could either be a good sign or a very bad one in my opinion.

Maybe TCX is shifting lock stock and barrel to LBA pug. I hope not as HUY could well do with more traffic rather than less.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
