It looks like it's a frenchise. I wonder if it will be as cheap as they usually are?

[textarea]Pret A Manger to open trio of stores at Birmingham Airport

Sandwich chain Pret A Manger has signed a deal to open three shops inside Birmingham International Airport.

The shops are the first to open in any airport outside the South East region. There will be one shop in the departure lounge of Terminal 1, one before departures in the same terminal and a new external kiosk.

Andrew Walker, the managing director at Pret, said: “We are really impressed by the vision of the team at Birmingham Airport and are looking forward to working in partnership to deliver a great service to their millions of passengers.”

Richard Gill, the head of commercial market development at the airport, added: “We are delighted to be welcoming another established and successful brand here to Birmingham Airport and look forward to seeing the outlets operational and offering passengers their trademark high-standard of fresh produce.

“The airport is currently embarking on a £13 million terminal redesign, which will see a vastly improved commercial offering to passengers, and these new Pret A Manger outlets signal our intent to attract the very best to Birmingham.”

Work on the units is set to begin in March, with plans to be open for business in May. The shops’ opening hours will be between 4am-11pm Monday to Sunday, with plans to open 24 hours during the summer months when the airport is busiest.

Re: Birmingham Airport - Retail Thread

I've not tried it yet but if it's the same people who own the two excellent Kababish restaurants then I'm sure the food will be delicious.

New Deli Arrives at Birmingham Airport

Things are hotting up at Birmingham Airport as a new deli serving traditional Asian street food has opened its doors to passengers inside the terminal.

Inspired by authentic Asian flavours, Deli Hub by Kababish is the latest addition to the Airport’s impressive list of eateries, giving passengers even greater choice before they fly.

Boasting a Halal menu that includes great tasting sub-continent street food classics like pakoras, samosas and chaats, passengers can also create their own mouth watering deli naan wraps, with a wide range of fillings and sauces to choose from.

Deli Hub is an extension of the well established Birmingham based Kababish restaurants in Moseley and Sutton Coldfield, which are firm favourites with Brummies who are partial to a balti.

Martyn Lloyd, Commercial Director at Birmingham Airport, said: “We’re pleased to welcome Deli Hub to Birmingham Airport, which I’m sure will prove to be tremendously popular with our passengers, especially for those who like their food a little bit spicy.

“We hope the Asian inspired decor and authentic street food menu will create an exciting atmosphere inside the terminal. The great tasting food will speak for itself.”

Sydd Sadiq, managing director of Kababish, said: “Deli Hub is a new and exciting concept for us, featuring some of the dishes and ingredients that have become so popular at our Kababish restaurants in Moseley and Sutton Coldfield. We’re delighted about this latest venture with Birmingham Airport and we have every confidence Deli Hub will be a big success here.”

Deli Hub is located inside the terminal and is open seven days a week between 10.00am and 10.00pm.

All Bar One will be opening two new bars, T2 departures and T1 landside. It'll be interesting to see where the landside one will be as since the 'one terminal' security changes there isn't a huge amount of room upstairs with Wetherspoons, Frankie & Bennys and BK taking up the larger units. Either a new unit will be created somewhere or one of the existing tenants will be moving out.

Birmingham Airport orders an All Bar One double

Listed pub company Mitchells & Butlers (M&B) is open two new bars in Birmingham Airport in 2014 under the All Bar One brand.

One will be located in the South departure lounge, opening in April, and an additional unit in the North landside area is planned for June. There are now close to 50 All Bar One bars nationally.

M&B property director Gary John said: "We are delighted to have successfully acquired these new locations and showcase All Bar One within one of the country's most vibrant and expanding airports. We continue to seek to expand our brands which serve attractive market segments and which can offer us good returns."

Richard Gill, Birmingham Airport head of commercial, added: "We're committed to providing our passengers with a world class experience and over the last few years we've improved our food and beverage offer throughout the airport to offer choice for all our passengers.

"The arrival of All Bar One's first-ever airport bar next year will enhance this even further."

The airside bar will be 4,300 sq ft and the landside bar slightly larger at 5,270 sq ft. Fit out is set to start in February 2014.

Birmingham Airport Post Office Open For Business 365 Days A Year

A new Post Office open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, has opened landside at Birmingham Airport’s Spar Store.

The Birmingham Airport Post Office has opened for its first week of trading and services will be provided from a Post Office terminal next to the shop’s till 365 days of the year.

Over 33,000 travellers use the airport each day and they will be able to do some last minute errands such as returning online purchases of holiday clothes which didn’t quite fit, paying bills, and posting urgent letters and cards.

Employees and airport visitors will be able to use the wide range of Post Office services, and customers of 95 per cent of UK banks can access their cash through the Post Office.

Richard Gill, Birmingham Airport’s Head of Commercial, said, “With more than nine million people a year travelling through Birmingham Airport and six thousand people working on site we want to provide a range of services that benefit all users of the airport. We are therefore delighted to welcome this post office to the airport and the many helpful services it gives.”

Adrian Wales, Post Office Regional Manager said: “Birmingham Airport is a bustling self-contained community so the new Post Office will complete the village atmosphere; operating round-the-clock the branch will be open whenever customers need it.

He added: “Birmingham Airport Post Office is one of only two 24 hours branches in the UK - so far - and is one of over 1600 branches open on a Sunday. We have now modernised 3000 Post Office branches and this is one of many in unexpected locations or with unique characteristics. We recently opened a fulltime Post Office in a church in West Hampstead, and while the majority of Post Offices are in convenience stores we also have branches in pubs, barber shops and hairdressers, garden centres, toyshops and pet shops. There is even one in a taxidermist.”

Nigel Bostock, Area Manager of Blakemore Retail said: “As an airport retailer we’re delighted to be able to provide Post Office services in our convenience store which offers a comprehensive range suitable for the modern traveller. This includes fresh foods and Food-To-Go items, daily essential grocery lines specifically chosen with passengers in mind, off license and much more.”

Re: Birmingham Airport - Retail and Food & Drink Outlets Thr

That's a major coup for Birmingham airport. They clearly feel the airport has the right critical mass to sustain a Hugo Boss store.

Re: Birmingham Airport - Retail and Food & Drink Outlets Thr

Yeah it'll definitely be a nice addition, I'm just trying to find out when it's due to open.

Re: Birmingham Airport - Retail and Food & Drink Outlets Thr

I asked the airport when Hugo Boss was due to open and received this reply,

it's open now, happy shopping! Looks fab too!

has anybody been through BHX lately to see it?

Re: Birmingham Airport - Retail and Food & Drink Outlets Thr

The Hugo Boss outlet looks smart enough although I haven,t had chance to check out prices or their stock yet.
The next unit to open will be a Victorias' Secret boutique.NICE ;)
The new souvenirs outlet has some interesting items.Everything from Stratford and Warwick themed items to Cadburys chocolate and even HP sauce!
Overall the shopping experience @ BHX is improving considerably if that is your thing.Useful for airport staff as well for gift ideas with Christmas looming. :good:

Re: Birmingham Airport - Retail and Food & Drink Outlets Thr

Thanks for the info.

Victoria's Secrets eh, I can see that being popular, and I've always thought BHX needed a souvenir shop so good to see there now is one. Is Austin Reed still open?

Shopping at airports seems to have a bit of a bad rep and if you're a regular traveller that just wants a quiet seat to sit and wait and retail has overtaken most of the space then I can see the annoyance, but as only an occasional traveller these days I quite enjoy a mooch around the shops to kill some time. Looking forward to checking out Hugo Boss :)

Re: Birmingham Airport - Retail and Food & Drink Outlets Thr

Austin Reed closed a good while back, when the old T2 was refurbished,if that is the right way to describe it!
The unfortunate thing with any new unit opening within the airport, whether airside or landside is they never seem to last very long. The units opened last year,NEXT,SUPERDRY etc seemed to haved bucked the trend.
Is it high rent rates or just not enough sales that is the problem? One for Mr Kehoe perhaps.

Re: Birmingham Airport - Retail and Food & Drink Outlets Thr

As an an afterthought the Hugo Boss unit reminds of some of the shops within the new Bullring shopping centre in the way it is layed out.If you shop there regularly you will know what I mean!!

Re: Birmingham Airport - Retail and Food & Drink Outlets Thr

I wonder if it's like the airlines where they get a good deal initially but rents soon increase.

I guess a retailer such as Austin Reed serves more of a niche market and although I have no evidence I'd imagine the business traveller is more likely to turn up at the airport 30 mins or so before and go straight to the plane. I guess the likes of Next and Superdry are much more mainstream and will suit both any business travellers who do like to shop aswell as families/singles/couples going on their holidays. I assume JD Sports is still open?

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
