It is expected at least two new routes for next year to be announced September/ October time.

Who knows we could be in for a
There has been a very upbeat mood on social media regarding load factors. I would have thought that the airlines would have increased flights by more than this. If the demand is there theres the opportunity to raise fares and Im sure more W legs would work.

I cant understand, why, having proved there is the demand, they dont capitalise on it and increase their offerings. Why bother even 'testing the water' if theres no intention to offer more flights?

Until Ryanair release their timetable for Summer 24, it is all a case of watch this space. Might be a case of increasing frequencies plus new routes, no one knows until Ryanair
Well, as Tui havent increased flights, and BH have reduced theirs, everything now hinges on Ryanair- unless theres a new airline in the offing.

Still boils down to yield. Good LF doesn't necessarily equate to good yield. If there are currently any subsidies involved then we have all seen what happens when subsidies dry up. So definitely a wait and see scenario

Yield and local competition will play a large part in it. MME is very close to NCL with significant catchment area overlap. They are very much at the mercy of what happens up the road - in spite of what the mayor might want people to believe.

I agree, but that being so why did the airlines even start services. Surely they must have thought there was potential and they must also have been prepared to increase flights. The current number of flights is ok for testing the water but surely not a practical number for sustained operations.

I suppose the current number are also impractical for the airport company, the staff must be under-employed.

Teesside International Airport crowned UK & Irish Airport of the Year at the Travel Trade Gazette Awards.

The Airport say over 27,000 passengers for September. Making it busiest month since 2010.
Teesside is one of six (out of 35) airports in UK to exceed pre covid levels.

Draken have commissioned some short films to explain what they do.
From their Facebook feed.

Planning approved for two twin hangars that will be located near railway station.

Teesside blasts past the 2012 yearly passengers total in nine months. With three months to go it will surpass the 2011 figure as well.

Airport say 27,178 passengers for September.

Good to read that the Mayor, Ben Houchen is so supportive of Teesside Airport.

I’m not sure I can agree. Whilst I do think the intention is there, it’s largely been driven by Political favour and airports in regions of low relative economic success are vote winners.

It’s good to see Teesside doing well on face value, but there are several aspects of concern and amongst them;

1. The airport hasn’t really ‘grown’, yes passenger figures are up in September, but from what I can see there is no growth planned for next year. It also falls well short of its peak value in years previous.

2. The airport is losing the same amount per year as DSA was with about 10-20% of the peak passenger value.

3. Ben Houchen seems to have a lack of any real commercial awareness nor any professional etiquette. One example being the posting pictures onto Facebook of Jet2 aircraft on their EIS at one of the Teesside based MRO facilities and using it as an opportunity to publicly request that they fly from MME. This could frankly piss off some airline execs.

So yes, the airport passenger figures showed growth on pre-covid levels, perhaps more so than any other airport in the U.K. but it’s a hollow victory because at this time there are no plans for any further growth next year. Paying airlines to use your facility in the face of stiff competition is not I would argue a sustainable business model.

Well he did bring it back into public ownership which is not something you'd expect of a Conservatives mayor.
But then created the Teesside Airport Foundation - a charitable trust that means that there is now no obligation to report detailed financial accounts. Call be a cynic, who knows perhaps Ben Houchen really does have a sense of public responsibility. Or perhaps he’s trying to hide something.

Oh I suspect the latter! Politicians often don't like scrutiny!

But passenger flights are only part of the equation. Theres so much else going on there that the other activities may be able to support the stagnant pax side of things until it picks up.

Tbh the other side of the business is probably the bit that will make or break the airport. Passenger flights are the icing on the cake then.

Draken have doubled their presence at the airport, extra hangar and aircraft.
The two Flight schools have expanded their fleets.
Office block built and leased out.
More retail/ hospitality units in the terminal getting passengers spending.
More cars using car parks.
New hangars being built with tenants pencilled in.
Willis has seen more work, thus bringing in extra revenues.
Southside first unit built with tenant expected to be announced shortly.

I was at the airport from 1200-1600 on Monday and had at least 50 aircraft movements.

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
