Bristol Airport offers flights to Tenerife

Kiss Flights has announced that it will begin a summer service between Bristol Airport and the popular Spanish island resort of Tenerife.

The route will operate from July 3rd to October 30th aboard a Viking Airlines Boeing 737.

Kiss Flights boss Paul Moss said: "Bristol has always been an extremely important regional UK departure point and I am delighted that we will be able to start serving this airport.

"We look forward to a long a prosperous relationship with our agents and customers from this region and hope to add more destinations in the future."

This route joins a number of others announced by the start-up carrier over the past couple of weeks, including schedules from Gatwick Airport and Manchester Airport to Fuerteventura, Tenerife and Sharm el Sheikh.

Kiss Flights presently transports passengers to a selection of European destinations, such as Lanzarote, Corfu, Crete, Hurghada, Zante and Kos.

I'm supprised that Kiss have chosen this summer to start up. I hope things go well for them.

As far as BRS is concerned flights to all the Canary Islands have been reduced in number over the past twelve months so there is a definite gap there.

I wondered whether one of the locos might step in for TFS although if they did it would likely be Ryanair and their schedule for the main summer period (4 based aircraft from the beginning of July) shows no gaps, although with this airline schedules and routes are never set in stone and things could change between now and the summer.

It seems BRS will not see SAS this summer.

There has been a 2 x weekly eight-week high season operation to Stockholm for the past two summers with loads pretty decent and last summer also saw a 3 x weekly route to Oslo from April to October, again with very satisfactory loads.

However, with SAS in desperate financial straits leading to the cancellation of 40% of its routes, the laying off of thousands of staff and the loss of many hundred million pounds it is no real surprise that SK will not feature on BRS arrival and departure boards this summer.

It's a great shame for all that but at least it has shown there is a market for such routes and when things pick up someone might step in. In fact, many in the aviation scene in the South West are surprised that Ryanair did not include at least one Scandinavian route in its extended portfolio from BRS.

easyJet flew to Copenhagen for a couple of years with excellent loads (I was on one return journey myself) but the airline cut back on CPH, not just from BRS, when the Danish government levied a tax of £10 per passenger.

Talk about coincidences, but I've just been reading that Copenhagen Airport is to open a new terminal geared effectively to low-cost airlines and that MOL has been making loud noises about Ryanair commencing a number of routes to it - probably next year.
