I imagine T1 is Terminal capacity at peak periods and not just parking stands. In terms of split based ops, could TCX possibly move its short haul to T2, and what would it take to persuade them? The problem is if MAN can't accommodate an extra 2 easyjet a/c, they are likely to place them elsewhere - at LPL perhaps, or maybe a new base at BHX?

Incidentally, who handled Monarch?
Yes please !!!

Easyjet has now said it is specifically bidding for Monarchs slots at MAN and that it aims to be one of the top airlines at MAN.

Looks like a big announcement will be made soon.

Does that mean that they have given up on obtaining extra slots at LGW? Or is competition a little tougher against BA/IAG and DY?

The further question is if they aim to the one of the top airlines at MAN; will there be terminal movement? As T2 is where the slack now is? So could TCX be moved over to T2 to allow growth of easyJet and Jet2 in T1?

This is where we face the interesting question.

It's probably more logical for TCX to move to T2. They have longer turn arounds, long haul (to which T2 is better suited) and they would be moving to T2 in time anyway.

However, could Easyjet be obtaining a deal in return for moving to T2? It's going to be an intersting time.

I am always interested to read the "Based aircraft" thread that is regularly updated by mky661 on the North West Air News forum.

His figures show the following based numbers for weekends in August:

Jet2 - 16
Thomas Cook - 15 plus 1 Condor
Thomson - 14
easyJet - 12
Ryanair - 9
Flybe - 8

If easyJet want to become the largest operator at Manchester then they need to grow by 4 plus based units and we can, I think, assume that Jet2 will increase by at least a further 2 aircraft.

Definitely interesting times ahead and I can see the missing Monarch numbers bring quickly replaced.

Out of interest does anybody know the number of aircraft at each easyJet base - both UK and pan-European?

I seem to have lost my edit button - the easyJet based figure should of course read 12 and not 13.

Now the question to think about... what type of routes would we expect easyJet to start operating? This is the comparison for Monday Monarch schedule from the repatriaton flights, showing when they operate and what times (or if they fly there out of LPL)

12:45 Palma >>> easyJet dept 1930, arrive 0130
13:20 Barcelona >>> easyJet Liverpool route
13:40 Alicante >>>> easyJet dept 0715 arrive 1335
14:05 Faro >>> easyJet Liverpool route
14:10 Malaga >>> easyJet dept 0610 arrive 1255
14:10 Mahon >>>> not served out of MAN or LPL
16:15 Dalaman >>> easyJet dept 0625 arrive 1600
16:25 Fuerteventura >>> easyJet Liverpool route
21:20 Verona >>>> not served out of MAN or LPL
22:05 Gibraltar >>> doesn't operate on Mondays
22:20 Dubrovnik >>> doesn't operate on Mondays

22:20 Naples >>> easyJet Liverpool route
22:55 Malaga >>>> only 1 easyJet flight above
22:55 Lisbon >>> easyJet Liverpool route
23:30 Zagreb >>> easyJet don't have any routes there!
23:55 Alicante >>>> only 1 easyJet flight above
00:20 Tenerife >>> easyJet dept 1735 arrive 0320

I can't really see easyJet deciding to add Lisbon or Naples out of MAN any time soon. Potential routes are Mahon, Faro, Verona and Fuerteventura, scope for extra Gibraltar and Dubrovnik? What would be nice is too see if they could get more "business" oriented destinations on board that could also appeal as city breaks: Brussels, Bucharest, Rome?

Zurich, would be a good business route, Swiss, have a monopoly with legacy sky high prices to match.

I seem to recall easyjet did serve Zurich from MAN at one time. It was one of the city routes they tried and dropped.
I think Helsinki was another and possibly Gothenburg.

They do of course fly to Basel and Geneva in Switzerland and a number of other "city" routes which have proved successful.

Zurich, Mahon, Bordeaux, Verona, Biarritz, Almeria, Naples, Kalamata would all be good options for new routes in my opinion.

Potential for increased offerings on Gibraltar, Dubrovnik/Split, Preveza, Thessaloniki, Dalaman, Porto etc.?

Could do with increased frequency to Tel Aviv now that Monarch are no longer on the route alongside EasyJet.

I'm sure that would depend on how profitable it is. Whilst it could always be full with the loss of Monarch on the route that may drive the Yield of the route up. I've also heard that revenue from on board sales is not always that great.

The sector cost for Tel Aviv actually makes it a profitable route. The issue is appealing to the whole Jewish Community as many prefer to travel on EL AL so many still head to Heathrow and then onwards.

Yes, that caveat always applies, but the MAN-TLV route specifically has just fallen from five weekly rotations to two so there is scope for a frequency increase (though I'm not suggesting to five per week).

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
