Massively important that these routes are a success as it will give them the commercial confidence to add further routes and push them towards establishing a base maybe Summer 2021. I am sure the influence of Nick Barton is helping
Flybe will have to improve their service levels and reduce some of the ridiculously high fares to compete with the EasyJet service. Will they stay and fight?

Given the success of the BFS route, I can't see how GLA or EDI could fail. Also, if EDI is added then AMS and CDG look far more realistic. Non of the above require a BHX base, but I look forward to any news.

Good news so now they have got the domestic market covered in the main, as Kevin says I can't see how they will not succeed it will be interesting to see how Flybe respond and hopefully Easyjet will expand in the near future into Europe. They seem to be working on a slow but steady network possibly watching the Brexit shambles to unfold one way or the other.

Mr Barton's background and contacts seem to be paying off and hopefully we have a long term productive future with Easyjet.

They seem to manage fine on the Belfast route so hopefully the same will be true of the Scottish routes.

Looks like BHX could get a significant (in BHX terms) easyJet presence whilst not actually having an easyJet base. Hopefully with slots to AMS & CDG being made available from Virgin/Flybe those will be two more routes we'll see announced in the next 6 months to a year.

Serving BHX by away based aircraft would be an ideal way for easyJet to test out the potential for any future base, with very little risk to themselves.

EASYJET ANNOUNCES BIRMINGHAM-EDINBURGH ROUTE

EasyJet has announced a new year-round Birmingham-Edinburgh route, with flights due to get under way on 29 March next year.

The domestic connection will operate 13 times a week and is expected to carry about 180,000 passengers in its first year

It is the second domestic route between Birmingham and Scotland announced by easyJet in recent weeks after outlining a 13-times weekly service to Glasgow, also launching 29 March 2020.

Ali Gayward, easyJet’s UK country manager, said the launch underlined the carrier’s commitment to providing domestic services.

“We’re confident the new service will be a popular addition to easyJet’s network with those looking to travel both for business and leisure.”

Nick Barton, Birmingham airport chief executive, added the route was another welcome addition to the easyJet network, and would complement its Geneva and Belfast services.

“It is important our passengers have a wide selection of destinations to choose from, as well as a frequency of flights to suit their needs,” said Barton.

“With the new route to Edinburgh, we now have two connections to Scotland with easyJet, both operating 13 times a week. Scotland is a popular destination not only for tourists but business passengers too, and we look forward to welcoming the additional services from March 2020.”

Fares will go on sale “in the coming weeks”.

EASYJET is expanding services from Scotland by introducing a route between Edinburgh and Birmingham, writes Scott Wright.

While Edinburgh has long held a cachet among tourists, Ms Gayward noted that the popularity of attractions such as events at the NEC and the National Motor Cycle Museum have dramatically boosted the appeal of the Midlands city in recent years.

“Birmingham as a city has been transformed in the last few years out of all recognition,” she said. “There is going to be a lot of leisure travel on the route too.”

180,000 seats are on the BHX-GLA route alone. If EDI is also added with a the same frequency, Easy will be adding circa 360,000 seats between BHX-Scotland

So, the new Year-round schedule for EasyJet at BHX is starting to take shape. Will it continue to change further, who knows but this is where we currently stand....

The stats we know so far!

• BFS = 18x Weekly Flights
• EDI = 13x Weekly Flights (NEW!!!)
• GLA = 13x Weekly Flights (NEW!!!)
• GVA = 3x Weekly Flights

Summer 2019

• Weekly Flights = 21x Weekly
• Weekly Seats = ~7,500 Seats
• Annual Seats = ~ 393,000 Seats

Summer 2020

• Weekly Flights = 47x Weekly
• Weekly Seats = ~16,900 Seats
• Annual Seats = ~880,000 Seats (124% Growth)

With these change alone, and this is before we know what is happening with any AMS/CDG flights, EasyJet are looking set to become a major carrier at BHX in 2020. Hopefully a corner has been turned and we are now reaching the critical mass when a base maybe considered in the future....???

Well I can defiantly say Birmingham Airports future is looking orange for sure . It took them a long time but I suppose as the saying goes ‘Good things come to those who wait’ can’t wait to try Glasgow and Edinburgh route out when they come I think it will be a blast as one I’ve never flown EasyJet, two gone are the days of Airline when Easyjet just looked trashy and three is youngsters are after all #GenerationEasyJet.

I'd be very surprised if easyjet started Dublin considering they don't even fly there from their biggest bases.

AMS and CDG are probably a different matter and if extremely valuable slots are up for grabs I'd be surprised if easyjet were not after them. I just can't see them sitting back and letting Flybe/AF/KLM keep them.
