I was hoping for more than more seats on an existing route to be honest. But 360,000 additional seats to Scotland will lead to a widening on BHX's catchment for forward routes to Europe particularly where they are poorly or under served in Scotland.

As for Calder, train travel is part of the overall balanced transport package but the impact of switching domestic flights in the UK to rail is, well intended, but insignificant on the environment compared with reassessing the need to travel, and nothing compared to stopping the breeding of farting cows!

Interesting the environmental argument has come out for the Edinburgh route but not for the Glasgow route (which is only 9 miles further as the crows fly).
I don't even remember a Simon Calder article about the Glasgow route? It maybe because the EDI route is now EZYs shortest UK domestic route that prompted the article?

BHX-EDI is getting plenty of press!
"Climate scientists and environmentalists have slammed easyJet for creating the shortest mainland UK link, describing it as a “pointless waste of carbon”."

Wells I suppose it gives them something to do but when the likes of the BBC's favourite S.Calder joins in the criticism I turn off as he probably clocks more air miles than anyone on this whole forum and makes a personal financial killing at the same time, do as I say not as I do the man is a hypocrite, moan over.

Have the media forgotten to mention BA's Heathrow to Manchester flight which is shorter than BHX-EDI by far? There are train links between london and manchester

No sorry, that would bad mouth BA and London and they don't like doing that...
And that's not the shortest UK mainland route. Aberdeen to Wick is with Eastern Airways.

Certainly smacks at lazy journalism. There are a number of current routes that are shorter including Manchester to Edinburgh flown by Flybe. The headline has been created from the statement that this is EasyJets shortest domestic route, not the UK's shortest flown domestic route but thats been lost in the headline

As said S20 is now on sale.

Geneva continues at the usual 3x weekly on Mon, Wed and Fri.

Belfast has 3 flights on Sun, Mon, Thur and Fri, 2 flights on Tue and Wed and 1 flight on Sat.

As for the climate argument, would they rather have 180 people travelling all at once on a fuel efficient aircraft that is only in the air for a little over 30 mins, or 90 different cars (assuming the pax travel in twos) chugging up the motorway for 5 1/2 hours spewing out fumes?

Hi there all, and hopefully easyJet announce Paris Charles De Gaule, Schipol Amsterdam, Madrid and Lisbon, then a bit stretching it, they could announce bhx to either jfk or Newark liberty next year on a 777-300, but that's a pipe dream I know, but you never know, with the surprise announcements of Glasgow and Edinburgh. Easyjet have no plans to serve the US at all from their network, why would they buy 777's ?
Now if you said Wizz, I could see it happening on a A321

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
