I would like to see easyJet at Birmingham. However 3 domestic routes, 3 summer routes they could fill out of almost anywhere, a niche route to France and now 2 city routes isn't really starting the "new base potential" alarm bells ringing. Yet.

Yes they can expand a bit more, Paris perhaps. Barcelona definitely. And what about perhaps somewhere in Italy?

Here's a list of unserved routes in no particular order for starters that pre covid some of which were served daily or more.

Milan
Lyon
Berlin
Stuggart
Hamburg
Hannover
Vienna
Reykjavik
Athens

Other routes such as Madrid, Prague and Rome are underserved compared to previously Oslo for example not at all and EasyJet could easily take a slice of the large bucket and spade market from the Midlands.

Obviously its a wish list and anyway EasyJet like most airliners are currently struggling to meet their existing commitments.

Milan, Lyon, Berlin are easyJet bases which therefore reduces likelihood of setting up a base. Why do that when you can add an aircraft to those bases or re-jig aircrafts about?

Athens is now served by Jet2 twice weekly. Reykjavik awkward one. Does it do well year round? Or would we rather see Icelandair offering both O/D traffic and one stop connection on the USA banks to many USA cities?

Prague and Rome - served Jet2. Madrid I can see Jet2 starting very soon.

I'm not putting this idea down just been a little realistic. I wish easyJet and BHX well but I think given easyJets very cautious tendency to not grow at a decent rate or new base and grow it from 2 to 2 to 5 to 6 in a short space of time.

Yes I know the likes of Jet2 serve Prague and Rome and Ryanair also serve Madrid twice weekly which is why I was trying to say they are underserved compared to previously for example CSA operated Prague 6weekly. Madrid and Rome had multiple operators from memory up to four or five at one point. As far as Reykjavik, yes definitely Iclelandair would be ideal with its transatlantic connections but they and BHX fell out big time for reasons unclear to me anyway.

I actually do not mind not having a base as such its the fact that those German routes and Milan in particular were long served with decent frequency and twice weekly does not facilitate business routes which is/was a BHX strength.

Anyway as I said it's a bit of a wish list.

And what good did that do? Having multiple airlines isn’t ideal. I remember once I believe the Barcelona had Monarch, Ryanair, Veuling and another operator on. More operators are great for customer choice. But bad for yield and profitability therefore driving other carriers off said routes.

I get the points your making but what I am trying to say we need daily or close to a daily service on more than a few routes. Take Amsterdam for example currently KLM run up to five per day and Flybe are daily they offer a flexible service for the whole market while EasyJet jet and Jet2 offer just a couple or so flights a week which is useless for business and connections. Jet2 as we know have thrown in the towel.

Amsterdam is an exceptional route though but the likes of Stuggart and Milan were up to double daily previously now nothing.

Good discussion though 👌

It's been the case for a while now, and even more so going forwards, that BHX now has the largest easyJet presence in the UK without having a base. As long as new routes can be added from overseas bases by all means do so, however there will become a point where to grow further a base will be required, hence why we have any bases in the UK at all.

Looking at where easyJet have bases in Europe, there's probably another 7/8 routes that would be good for BHX (BER, BOD, LYS, MXP, NCE, TLS, VCE and maybe CDG/ORY). Given the rate that easyJet has been adding new routes from BHX, continuing at that rate would have all those served in the next 2/3 years. After that, any substantial growth can only come from a base.

easyJet schedule to AMS is currently reduced, presumably due to the capacity restrictions at Schiphol. From September, the plan is to go back to double daily.

Agreed the Jet2 service was a bit of a waste of time tbh.

Flight times courtesy of Google flights

Wednesday
LIS 06:25 - BHX 09:10
BHX 09:50 - LIS 12:35

Saturday
LIS 06:00 - BHX 08:45
BHX 09:25 - LIS 12:10

For winter at least there will be two Lisbon flights on Saturdays, although Ryanair departs in the afternoon so they don’t clash horribly.

Awesome news, slowly but surely we are getting an Easyjet network that doesn't just concentrate on the sun routes, AGP, PMI etc.

Looking forward to seeing more European cities sooooooooooooooooooooooooon

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
