A CityJet aircraft (F 50 according to Mayfly) landed at BRS from Glasgow at teatime today.

Almost certainly it was carrying the Rangers football team that is due to play Bristol City tomorrow in a pre-season friendly.

Mayfly shows the aircraft departing tomorrow at 1730 to Munster-Osnabruck Airport, Germany. Rangers following pre-season friendly is away against Gutersloh FC.

Mayfly shows the aircraft departing tomorrow at 1730 to Munster-Osnabruck Airport, Germany. Rangers following pre-season friendly is away against Gutersloh FC.

Yep that is correct it will be leaving at 1730 tomorrow 13/7.

I note from Mayfly that a Titan B 733 flew in from BHD and back this afternoon.

I also note that LBA had a similar movement transporting police officers - presumably as mutual aid in connection with the Northern Ireland public order situation. I guess that was the reason for the BRS movements too.

[textarea]Bristol Airport welcomes the Red Arrows and Typhoons

Bristol Airport will play host to the Red Arrows and Typhoon aerobatic display teams this weekend. The teams will touch down on Friday 9 August at the Airport in readiness for their displays at the Bristol International Balloon Fiesta (8 – 11 August 2013).

The Arrows’ ten Hawk aircraft will call in at Bristol Airport, making an unusual addition to the passenger aircraft more commonly seen at the airport.

Expected at 13.30 on Friday, the Red Arrows usually land using one of four potential formations, known as ‘breaks’, including a low level overflight prior to landing. They will then take off at 15.49 on Friday to carry out the Balloon Fiesta display, returning to the Airport before departing at 19.12 for a display at Cowes Festival, returning again later in the evening. They will depart Bristol Airport for the final time early afternoon on Saturday for displays at the Northern Ireland Festival of Flight and in Blackpool.

The two Typhoon aircraft will arrive at 14.00 on Friday with one aircraft departing at 12.40 on Saturday for the display at the Balloon Fiesta. After the display this aircraft is then performing at the Northern Ireland Festival of Flight. Sunday will also see the Typhoon aircraft arrive and depart from Bristol Airport ahead of their busy performance schedule at Blackpool.

The Red Arrows are regular visitors to the Bristol Balloon Fiesta although they missed last year because they were in Russia.

They've also used BRS in the past couple of years for displays at The Weston-super-Mare Air Day and the Portishead Carnival.

I saw the Red Arrows land at BRS on Friday lunchtime - always an impressive sight as was their display at the Bristol Balloon Fiesta that I watched later that afternoon from a hill about four miles away.

Two Typhoons were due at BRS on Friday half an hour after the Red Arrows landed at 1330. I waited until about a quarter past two before leaving - no Typhoon appearance at that time.

The Typhoon put in an appearance at the Balloon Fiesta on Saturday though. I live about five miles from the Balloon Fiesta site but I could clearly hear the noise of its engines and had a brief glimpse of it in the distance at one point.

Avro Lancaster

By chance I looked at the BRS Twitter feed this evening - I'm not normally someone who bothers with Twitter - and found a discussion about a Lancaster landing at BRS this lunchtime to refuel before going on to an air display somewhere.

Runway 27 was in use this morning and at lunchtime as I can clearly see arriving aircraft from my house heading for it at about seven mile finals. The weather was fairly clear for most of the morning in that the clouds were not low and I'd have seen the Lancaster had I been aware and had been looking out for it.

That is annoying.

Alba Star

I noted that on Ceefax and on Mayfly, but perhaps oddly not on the BRS arrivals web page, two Alba Star Boeing 737-400s were due in from Lille this afternoon.

It was said yesterday on the LBA movements page that arrivals there from Lille (with Jet2) were the result of B & Q employees travelling to a convention and that similar movements would occur at a number of regional airports.

I presume the Alba Star aircraft actually put in an appearance.

yes alba aircrafts were in brs on weds. as was said operate to lille. they were b737 400s. hope this sets the records straight.

Freebird

BRS arrivals/departures pages showed a Freebird arrival early afternoon today from Antalya, returning to AYT an hour or so later.

Mayfly confirms a Freebird A 320 rotation with the return via Glasgow. Next week's Mayfly shows a similar rotation.

I don't know the reason. Antalya doesn't usually start until late spring and from memory Freebird hasn't been seen at BRS regularly for a year or two at the very least.

I also seen it in mayfly. thought a strange one or a mayfly error, but it was right as seen it on fr24.
I wonder if it was a travel agent promotion thing, to sell turkey.
That was my thoughts on it.If not perhaps someone will know the reason.

Was on duty when Freebird operated into BRS...I'm told it's more of a cultural trip and was a spilt load with GLA. Nice to see a different tail on the ramp during the winter!

Wales v France Rugby Six Nations at Cardiff on Friday evening brings just three additional flights into BRS according to Mayfly.

It's showing Ryanair from Grenoble and Nantes, and Hop! from Paris Cdg (with a CL65). Usually get more than this for Wales v France. Maybe the fact that the match is on a Friday evening has a bearing.

I know this is the BRS thread but is CWL going to get its usual high density Air France B777-300ER this year?

About half a dozen flights arrived at CWL today for the rugby tomorrow with more expected tomorrow.

I understand that amongst them was Air France B 777-300 F-GSQT from Paris Orly that arrived this afternoon.

The Ryanair return flights to Grenoble and Nantes and the Hop! to CDG are shown on Mayfly as operating on Sunday 23 February 2014.

Mayfly is also showing two additional flights to Chambery on Sunday: A BA E190 (presumably BA CityFlyer) is shown as positioning in from EDI at 0815 and leaving fro Chambery at 0850.

A B 737-700 under a STU flight number is shown as arriving from Chambery at 1445 and departing for Chambery at 1545. STU appears to have been the flight code for Strategic Airlines although they apparently operated Airbuses until they ceased to trade. The only airline with a STU code that I can find is an Argentinian one. Anyone any ideas?

I presume the BA and STU flights are rugby-related although I wasn't aware of them bringing in passengers before the match. The Sunday regular Chambery ski flight flown by a Germania B 737-700 is still shown by Mayfly as operating.

The STU code could be a typo for Germania. They seem to use 2 codes, ST and GMI. They have been doing a lot of ad-hoc work around the UK this winter.

Thanks for that. It's a possibility although the BRS Mayfly uses the ICAO airline codes (the 3-letter designator) and the regular Germania flight to CMF that day is shown as GMI.

Maybe the STU has become transposed in some way although STU is shown for both the arrival and departure in different columns.
