I have it from a credible source that Singapore is seriously considering EDI.
Often wondered if a SIN-EDI-IAH route might work, given that it might be attractive to oil-related folks at the southern part of Aberdeen/shire. A United codeshare might help for US-originating traffic too. (All speculation on my part).

Could an A340 reach India direct from EDI?
Yes but not fully loaded. It would need 10,000 feet of runway.

The choice of aircraft and the lease arrangement doesn’t make much operational sense to me, they won’t be able to fully load the plane and they will need a stopover. Could they have been offered a bargain by the Romanian company?

Of course, SQ already serve IAH via MAN and I strongly doubt there is a business case to move it to EDI. I believe UA do not codeshare with SQ on Europe/US routes.

SQ is very conservative about new long haul routes. To/from UK, SQ is weighted towards UK originating passengers so the question is not about inbound tourism to Edinburgh but the outbound demand. It is very speculative given there is not yet any evidence of a strong Far East market from there. Likewise DUB.

United can’t and don’t codeshare on the existing MAN-IAH route as it’s a fifth freedom

That's very interesting. Is there an article or similar that you could point me to please that shows the proportion of UK originating passengers on SQ's UK operations?

I have to say, the growth seen at Edinburgh Airport in recent times is quite phenomena. It doesn't seem too long ago when Glasgow Airport was the place to be but Edinburgh seems to be the shining light.

Any reasonable expectations for what 2024 may bring (beyond things already announced)? Some more capacity to the Middle East? An Indian or additional Asian destination? Some more based Ryanair? The year could also see growth at GLA outstripping EDI (especially if Ryanair reopen a base at GLA). New owners of either or both could see a change in their respective fortunes.

S24 ACL Update

An updated ACL has been released.
Some very promising news for S24

Emirates have actual allocated slots for a daily service. Not 100% certain that they will resume. However, I’m led to believe that it is becoming more likely they will resume following delivery of new aircraft.

Qatar have allocated slots for a 3 x daily service. Fantastic for EDI if this is confirmed.

Hainan slots allocated and confirm the intention for a 4 x weekly peak service.

Play have allocated slots for a daily Reykjavik service. The move from Glasgow expected to be confirmed imminently.

Iberia increasing frequency on Madrid route (previously reported).

Ryanair expect to significantly increase capacity from EDI in S24.

United increasing seats in S24. Largely due to Washington service starting earlier than normal.

Westjet, Virgin, Finnair, Air France, Air Canada and Lufthansa all have slots allocated for increased frequencies.

Thanks @Jetsco Do you know what the increase in Virgin's frequency amounted to (presumably it's not happening this year given it's still on sale at twice-weekly)? Is there any mention of the rumoured Indian or Ethiopian services?

The VS frequency increase is recorded on the updated ACL. Not reflected as yet on VS website. The number of seats compared to S23 remain the same on the report. This could therefore mean that VS may announce frequency increase in due course.

No specific mention of new routes being targeted or negoitatied. This isn’t unusual as any new route would be announced or confirmed by a media release. In the case of Ethiopian, I’d expect quite a fanfare, should this be confirmed.

No Virgin increase in S24 as the shared aircraft with MAN will be doing the same frequency as last year - the route did not to particularly well so an increase would be a surprise

Fairly quiet start to the year so far with regard to route development. I wonder if this is about to change? Having passed through EDI earlier today and chatting to a handling agent buddy, it appears that Swissport have received a new request for services for S24. Not at liberty to say who from, but hopeful signs that something may well be just around the corner.

A new airline or the return of an airline that used to serve EDI?

Any idea when whatever this is may be announced?

Pure speculation

I have heard and I use the word “rumour” that a certain ME carrier may be heading for EDI. This has been rumoured previously but I just wonder if there could be something in this one. We all like a bit of route gossip after all 😉

Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)

Hi, I was born and lived in B36 for a long time - Lindale Avenue, just around the corner from Hodge Hill Comp.
I just noticed your postcode on a post.

Do you still live in the area?
