Both LH and AF fly to smaller airports. Let’s hope they can as I have said for a long time that there needs to be a better mix of airlines and not just locos...
It is however a shame as has been said for the staff and passengers alike

So the Toulouse shuttle also ceases. Strange they took Over the contract just last month.

With 2 daily flight to Bristol and Chester it s going to be a need for quick solutions.

Airbus lost their corporate shuttle service between Toulouse and Hamburg recently when Germania went out of business. I read they are wet-leasing Titan as a stop gap. Now they will be looking for one to fly between France and the UK as well.

Very disappointing news indeed. Since I moved to the area 5 years ago I have flown 9 sectors on BM (and would have flown two more but for the weather disruption in March last year). Seemingly the writing has been on the wall for a while though given the regular cancellations and operational unpredictability.

In my experience the staff were first-rate, however, and hopefully they can all find gainful employment elsewhere in the sector.

Agreed that from a pure numbers perspective BM is not a massive loss to BRS, but the codeshares in particular provided competition to KLM, proved that BRS is not just a LCC airport and deterred some pax from making the eastbound M4 journey. Time will tell whether those links will be reinstated or if LH group will play the waiting game to see how the Brexit situation unfolds. One imagines that BRS will fight hard not to lose those connections as that would likely undermine the airport's long-term growth agenda.

Given the loss of bmi and the reduction of seats on offer from tui this summer , anyone think we will still reach 9 mill this year ?

Also given past history with German routes I wonder if the airport expect to get a new operator any time soon or will we have to see people travel up the m4 again ?

That’s really good news. It looks like the flights originate in Bristol too

Suspect there has been a lot more to it about the transfer of some ERJs to LM. Maybe they will pick up more of them now. Is this all coincidence I wonder? To the non travel professional and non enthusiast I would also guess it is easy to mix up Flybe and flybmi. Especially considering the former has also been in the media spotlight recently due to financial problems and an impending sale

I wonder how Lufthansa are feeling about it all. Are they now prepared to lose some of the 9k plus passengers per month flying through fra or muc or as I quite fancy they take over the routes themselves perhaps with a larger aircraft with potential better margins. Surely Loganairs business model is too similar to bmis to be successful long term ?

The flight times look confusing it suggests a based BRS aircraft operating a W for an ABZ route and a direct ABZ based flight in the evening.
Looks like the morning one is what BMI were doing before.

Looks like Loganair are taking over the Airbus flights. G-SAJC now at Hawarden.

Well looks like Loganair are taking over the ex flybmi operations from both its Aberdeen and Newcastle bases now..

Wonder if Loganair might also look at some of the ex flybmi routes from Bristol base?
CityJet were already going to take over BRS-BRU this spring.

The other BRS routes might be more problematical.

I watched the BBC Tv national news earlier and they keep going on about the average of 18 passengers per flight but illustrate the story with shots of former bmi 'mainline' Airbuses.

One 'expert' on the main BBC tv news just now said that regional airports will feel the pinch and flybmi's demise might be a serious blow. He mentioned Bristol Airport that he said has plans for expansion and might now have to reconsider if they can't find replacements for flybmi.

Who are these people? How is the loss of 2% of BRS's 8.7 million annual passenger numbers a cause for a rethink on expansion?

I think it was the same 'expert' who suggested that the Virgin-acquired Flybe (if it acquires the airline) might be interested in some of flybmi's routes. Would they want to operate, for example, BRS-FRA to feed into Lufthansa's long haul?

I think it shows a general lack of knowledge of the UK regional airline scene by these so called 'experts'. They might as well just interview Joe Bloggs about it!

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
