Maybe there is a discrepancy in the June figures that is having to be checked over. I've never known the figures to be out so late when the initial publication date was 2 weeks ago.

Well the good news is that the June 2013 passenger figures are now available, but the even better news is they are up on 2012.

Interestingly, this year there were a few less flights than last but they were more full on average.

Still on the low side but as you say the passenger figures were up on fewer flights. This should mean more profitability.

One reason for this months small gain ( 417 passengers) may well be that as airline fleets become more standardised they are, in general, being replaced by models with more seating... hence the higher passenger numbers on marginally less movements. Despite last months figures DSA has a long, long way to go to achieving anything like its forecasts which were badly wrong as must have been the revenue projections.

Unless the incredible debt situation of the old operating company is amortised it is difficult to see how the airport can ever produce a financial return on its aviation operations alone. :dunno:

Does anyone remember if Peel or the developers were ever given public money to develop the airport?

At the time, Peel was in receipt of the biggest amount of EU money ever granted to develop an airport....many £millions..including £10,034,184 of Objective One grant...followed by an additional...£4,707,001. Seemingly, the prospect of job creation was the major factor!

No wonder HUY, MAN, EMA and LBA all opposed it. Probably £15m would have been better spent on HUY.

Don't forget that SCA also objected...and they had only been opened a matter of a couple of years. Arguably, the owners of DSA bought into the new airport with the major objective of having it close.

Yes, it is the worst July on record and the only rumours I hear are those of further small cuts in routes.

It is PAX data day and showing a slight uplift compared to the previous August..

Thanks for the update muddycoffee. That's some increase in comparison with July figures. Any idea why there's such a big difference between July and August figures in comparison with last year?

A couple of the Polish destinations have had their best ever month and some of the holiday destinations have shown some additional loadings. Another possible reason may well be that the region is, at long last, showing some signs of emerging from the recession. Peel was quick to blame economic circumstances when things were on their way down so it can only be reasonable to suggest economics has something to do with the one month of growth. Septembers figures should be interesting!

I notice on the DSA website they are saying that passenger numbers are soaring and the airport handles in excess of 1 million passengers per year yet that does not seem to equate with figures posted on this forum.

Year on year growth? Really?

Easily accessible airport? Back lanes, limited bus services, no coaches, no rail link. Yep easy!

New flight to Lanzarote which 'represents growth'. Again, not quite, its replacing a Sharm flight (conveniently not reported that one of those was dropped).

Top 3 airport voted for by which readers? With facilities closing, a half mothballed terminal, lack of choice of flights, grotty exterior which is rarely cleaned, I would genuinely love to know who was questioned in that poll. Possibly a blind person who has never used the airport.

30 destinations 'around the globe'. My my, talk about clutching straws. A winter short series charter to Barbados with a smattering of European leisure flights and VFR to Poland hardly puts DSA on a 'global' scale now.

Bless the man for trying though, I suppose someone has to be passionate about DSA :whiteflag:

WOW, As things stand Doncaster Sheffield Airport will be lucky to achieve the same number of passengers as it did last year (693,372). This year 5 of the 8 months reported so far have seen fewer passengers using Robin Hood airport in comparison with last year. Incidentally, last year was the second worst year on record since the airport opened back in 2005 but arguably last year was the worst. The first three months of 2005 didn't seen any passenger carrying flights.
