As Severn pointed out recently in the BRS Ryanair thread, 53 of the 125 weekly rotations there in summer are operated by aircraft from other bases with the other 72 operated by BRS-based aircraft. That's an average of 7.5 rotations each day operated by 'visiting' Ryanair aircraft which confirms that with Ryanair a base is not necessarily a prerequisite for a substantial route network. At Newcastle they have a pretty good network and no base so they don't really need to base.
