I have been watching this with great interest over the last couple of months and didnt know if Scotland did vote yes to independance, how it is going to effect UK carriers starting new flights from Scotland in the furure ????

I have mentioned this becouse recently Thomas Cook Airlines announced expansion to North America which included a new flight from GLA (Glasgow Int) to Las Vegas in Summer 2015. I know that even with a "yes" they wont officially become independant for a year or two, however as they will no longer be part of our "G" registration code on aircraft, will UK carriers still operate flights from Scotland like they do now ???

Will be interesting stuff.

It's one of hundreds, thousands of matters - most not aviation connected - that will have to be addressed should Scotland vote for independence. I suspect that nothing will change overnight but that changes will be brought in over a number of years. Currency will be a nightmare for starters.

Probably the most likely early effect in aviation will be APD with the current Scottish leadership saying that an early reduction would be near certain. Even if Scotland votes no the Westminster government could still, and probably will, devolve more powers to Scotland, with APD possibly one of them. Wales, too is likely to be given more powers.

Without being too political the more powers that are devolved to Scotland and Wales the more the Westminster government will reduce to a government just for England but with MPs from Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland having a say on matters that are purely English.....the West Lothian Question expanding even more controversially.

Furthermore, there seems to be a major difference of opinion over a devolved Scotland's automatic membership of the EU. That could have a significant effect on aviation within Scotland if the country has to apply to join the EU and is rebuffed.

My view is that if the majority of Scottish voters wants independence then I have no argument with them.

I wonder why, if Scotland has such a rich future, the English taxpayer is making such a large contribution to their lifestyle? I also wonder how an agreement which was made to last... "for ever"... can be so easily overturned and I also wonder why, when our Parliament spent weeks debating whether or not we wished to take on our bankrupt neighbours and their debts, the English Parliament and its people have no say in the current debate?

Personally I feel everybody in the UK should have a chance to vote on whether Scotland should become independent. Over 800,000 Scottish people live in other parts of the UK, none of which are entitled to a vote on independence. In my eyes the matter was closed over 300 years ago in 1707 when the nations became one. In England, more people live in the county of Yorkshire than live in Scotland which makes the idea of an independent Scotland look like a pointless exercise.

We used to have a moderator under the name of GlasgowMan on here who was a firm believer that Scotland should stay within the UK. He claimed there was a hidden agenda by the Edinburgh politicians with money being pumped into everything in Edinburgh the 'capital' of Scotland whilst other parts of Scotland were being forgotten.

Scotland is a beautiful place but sadly it cannot survive on tourism alone and when the new "nation" of Scotland fails, the rest of the UK will be left to pick up the pieces as economic migrants head south through our already pathetic border controls.

If they vote for Independence surely it will saves us millions that we will not have to pay out for Scottish MPs thet we do at the present time.

Of course there are benefits for the rest of the UK if Scotland votes for independence but I still feel we're better together.

Having once been married to a "wee Scot" I have to say if she was typical ( she had an MA from St. Andrews and was a Director of Education) they need to stop inventing their cultural history and stop blaming their fellow Anglo-Saxons for their problems. ( I always liked the suggestion that Edinburgh takes its name from the Anglo-Saxon Northumbrian King Edwin...(Edwin's burgh) and nobody is quite sure what happened to the original inhabitants...the Picts)

The idea that they are all , tartan wearing,Gaelic speaking "chuctahs" couldn't be further from the truth and as for the English oppressing them ... from my bitter experience of them that's a real laugh! ;)

All checked in for my flight to Sydney from Manchester via Heathrow. Been waiting for this trip for nearly a year and now tomorrow I'll finally head to Australia and New Zealand!

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
