Manchester: CAA Provisional Statistics Update

Use this prefix for new threads for Manchester Airport
I don't know how many pre-booked and potential MON pax were lost in Oct (c 100,000 maybe) but some of those would presumably have switched to other carriers. Also, would 5.4% of total flights in September have reflected a similar proportion of pax i.e. were Mon's average loads typical of the airport's as a whole? If so, and if 5.4% would have been applicable to October as well, MON's lost pax in October could be more like 130,000. But with a reduction in movements in Oct. I guess the mix and percentage could change.
The next 2 months may give a clearer indication, but bearing in mind I think the increase in seats for winter before the collapse of MON was a lower percentage than summer 2017.

Destinations that are either new (no passengers since my records started in January 2005), or have not been served for a number of years - if the latter then the month and year of the last service is shown.
No new routes to report, although Kiev (Borispol) appears as a 'one off'.
Only one domestic statistic is currently missing from the CAA report for September.
Exeter is missing from the initial monthly statistics for September. In September 2016 the flown passenger figure for this route was 9,724.

Good to see strong growth on some of the German cities and also Zurich and Geneva. Etihad & Dubai up but QR down again nearly 10%. ATL and ORD not great either.
I was shocked to see Hainan down 22%. Had the frequency dropped to 3 weekly in October or was it a/c type? I appreciate the number of sectors can vary in a particular month compared to the previous year when less than daily due to the days of the week flights operate, but 22% seems a lot. I think the post on another thread about China flights is very apposite in the present situation. If MAN's presence in the China market is to prosper in the medium term, I wouldn't want all the eggs in one basket as it were.

Manchester Airport adds more passengers than any other UK airport
That is up 2% on the previous year and marks another month of growth for the UK’s third biggest airport.
It comes as CAA data reveals Manchester added more passengers than any other UK airport between April-September 2017. The airport added 1.27m passengers compared to Gatwick and Heathrow that added 1.25m passengers each.
Manchester Airport’s annual rolling passenger numbers now stand at 27,764,247, an increase of 9.7% year on year.
Growth has slowed at the airport due to the collapse of Monarch Airlines which has left some capacity unused for this winter season. The airport remains confident that by the start of the summer season all capacity will be filled and this has already started with Jet2.com, TUI and Thomas Cook Airlines all already increasing capacity for next year.
The top five destinations in November were:

“Now the summer peak is over we are continuing to invest in the airport and passengers will start to see our £1bn transformation take shape and develop over the coming winter months.”
Last week saw the airport’s owner, MAG, announce its half year results, which saw the 10 boroughs of Greater Manchester receive an interim dividend of £35.7m, an increase of 18% on the previous year. Through the airport’s unique ownership structure, this money is directly invested back into the region, funding vital projects.
MAG’s airports at London Stansted and East Midlands also all grew their passenger numbers, with East Midlands growing 20% year on year, and MAG as a whole serving 3.8m passengers in November (+4.1%).

It really is no surprise to see Tenerife as the 4th busiest destination from MAN - Northerners LOVE this island especially in November when it's still quite hot.
It would be interesting to see the breakdown of who's the biggest MAN-TFS carrier now though. I was always under the impression that ZB were the largest with U2 and FR not far behind them.

Egilsstadir, in Iceland appears for the first time as a one-off charter with 197 passengers whilst Southend is added as a new domestic destination with 3549 passengers.
Two domestic statistic are currently missing from the CAA report for November .
Belfast International and Inverness have yet to provide figures

when the December 2017 data is out I will try and find time to compare the annual totals of the major long haul routes (and short haul to the major EU hubs) against previous years (it might be interesting to see where it lies against 2007 if anyone has the data!
