I hope that I will not bore you too much with the following....

Whilst I was doing a little thinking before going to sleep the other night I remembered that I have some rather old CAA statistics for Manchester on my laptop. So, since I have just updated the June 2026 records I thought I would do a comparison with the same month in 2006.

So, what have I noticed as striking?

Firstly shall we look at the month's passenger number?

Total International Passengers - June 2006 1,987,793. June 2026 2,902,487. Change +46.02%
Total Domestic Passengers - June 2006 319,240. June 2026 156,991. Change -50.82%
Combined Totals - June 2006 2,307,033. June 2026 3,059,478. Change +32.62%

So, immediately we can see a big reduction in domestic passengers as shown below:

Firstly the Scottish routes have taken a hammering, although Inverness has been an exception. Then we have Exeter and Southampton that Loganair had restarted, but there is no comparison with 2006 and it's not surprising that the routes have once again been pulled. Wow, what has happened to Heathrow? Down by over 50%.

Now it's time to look at International routes. Here I don't really know where to start. Maybe we should look at the international destinations that are no longer served?

Finally I have a list of the international destinations that have been added in by 2026:

I have had a couple of errors pointed out to me, for which I'm grateful. I'll revisit my data source and make a few adjustments where needed.

Adjustments have been made to the original post.

Heads Up!

For some weird reason, my days off work tend to involve being out of my flat by 5am and not getting back until 10pm. Back to work and the regular "fix" of 7.40am to 7.15pm hours
Heatwave Mk2 next week?
Some explosive weather build-ups currently in the North of England. What is it like where you are?

I don't believe I am quite covering enough roles at work. Its now 4 on a bad day, 5 on a good day and there is scope for a 6th and 7th role. Still on minimum pay but had the biggest payrise in the company,
