I try hard to fly BHX when it comes to short-haul as having parents in the city mean free parking, though it's not always easy with LBA, DSA, MAN and EMA all closer than BHX.

However, as an air miles collector, I really struggle with long-haul from BHX ...over the last 12 months I've collected just short of 400,000 Virgin Flying Club miles, and by the end of this year, hope to have collected 250,000 avios. Is I've had a taste of first class, I don't want to go back to the cattle shed for long-haul flights if I can avoid it. Consequently, in the UK, VS & BA are the easiest to collect, just none fry from BHX!!!

I was able to fly first class from LHR-LAX (Virgin) and then LAX-KOA (Delta) all for £520 rtn!!! ...gotta love air miles!

Innsbruck with Inghams in June with Cityjet one of the most beautiful settings for an airport in the world then Bordeaux to my parents house in the Charante in October. I would love to fly to Nuremburg in December for Christmas markets if the tickets aren't too expensive.

Porto with Monarch in May and Menorca with Thomson in August.

I also fancy a European Christmas Market but it's difficult this year with the schools breaking up so late.

Just back from FUE, courtesy of TOM7327, aka G-OOBG. I'll let the times speak for themselves:
Touchdown 18:24
Blocks 18:27
Off the a/c 18:32
Arrived immigration 18:34 (stand 40!)
Through immigration 18:38 (glad to see the AI was still taxying in though!)
First bag, wait for it, ...18:50!
We were landside by 19:02, so excellent times really. BUT, the carousel was too small for a fully loaded 752 and my impression of the arrivals area as a whole (especially immediately post customs): grotty and desperately needing a refresh.

So, in summary, overall good experiences both outbound and inbound, though I suspect had we arrived an hour earlier, we'd still be out the door around the same time!

Departure gets an "A-" from me, arrival a less impressive but still ok "C+".

Going out with Lufthansa to KRK via MUN in May and with Iberia to MAD in June.
Its great to be getting to use BHX as I'm normally having to make the trip down to LHR for the west coast.

We have just booked a holiday in Sri Lanka via Dubai from BHX. We have booked it as a package but as part of the process I checked Emirates prices.
Return economy in September BHX to Colombo £385 each!! It is sale time but a very good price.

Just booked flights to Malaga for a short break in October.

I came very close to booking a package with Jet2 Holidays but eventually decided on Monarch.

With so much competition it's been interesting looking at various airlines and their prices. BA are the cheapest but the times are shocking and they only offer one day per week, there's really not much in it between the other locos. I can only imagine that Thomson don't want flight only, preferring to sell the holidays?

Vueling £197.44
Jet2 £189.90
Monarch £188
Norwegian £214
Ryanair £193.98
Thomson £494
British Airways £167.73

Lots of places to choose from jfy1999 ex BHX. I can recommend the Charente my parents have a place near Angouleme. La Rochelle/Bordeaux/Bergerac all make the area quite easy to get too. I noticed that Thomson holidays are selling holidays to Cote D'Azur with Monarch on their Mon and Fri flights.

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
