Top restaurant to open at Glasgow Airport

People relaxing in airport lounges will now have a new option when they are feeling peckish at Glasgow Airport, with an esteemed new restaurant set to open.

EAT, which is one of the UK's fastest growing food outlets, is to help build a new image for the airport.

It will open at the end of this month and will have room for around 70 customers to enjoy its offerings.

EAT co-owner Faith MacArthur said: "We are delighted to open in Glasgow Airport and to be part of such a high quality new departure lounge."

Glasgow Airport retail manager Gill Caleary added: "EAT is a fantastic addition to the retail offer at Glasgow Airport and we are delighted to have attracted such a prestigious brand name to the airport, particularly one with a strong reputation for quality service."

The airport opened a brand new 'skyhub' extension to its terminal last October, which includes a new arrivals hall, as well as additional bars and shops.

Fashion outlet mall for Glasgow Airport

McArthurGlen Luxury Retail has announced that Glasgow Airport will become the fourth European location for its Collezioni travel retail fashion concept this autumn. Aimed at 're-invigorating the presentation of prestige fashion brands in airports', it will unveil 11 new stores for ‘young, directional fashion brands' concentrated in a stylish, curved avenue of stores bordering the new-look departure lounge, part of a multi-million pound revamp of the airport terminal.

Brian Collie, (previously BAA Group Retail Director), now Chairman of McArthurGlen Luxury Retail, welcomed the arrival of Collezioni in its fourth European country. He said: ‘Although its first opening, at Venice Marco Polo Airport, was only a year ago, Collezioni has already proven its adaptability to meet the needs of different locations and passenger profiles by providing a unique blend of international brands and regional favourites.'

‘The new Skyhub extension at Glasgow Airport is a superb contemporary setting for Collezioni. The combination of the two demonstrates that medium-sized airports can certainly provide a unique fashion brand experience.

[textarea]Workers campaign to save Glasgow Airport bakery

Glasgow Airport workers have launched a campaign to save their favourite bargain bakers shop at the terminal from being force to close, the Daily Record reports. Greggs the Bakers are being booted out of the airport later this year after they failed to negotiate a new contract, but airport workers have launched a campaign on social networking site Facebook calling on airport owners BAA to ‘get your hands off our buns' !

The people behind the campaign have accused airport owner BAA of forcing out the only affordable food outlet. One told the newspaper: ‘Staff have nowhere affordable to eat. Most of the baggage handlers and ground handling agents are on minimum wage and can't afford premium prices that other outlets in the airport charge. The only options are Boots meal deals and Greggs.'

‘We suspect this is a deliberate move by BAA to force people to pay more. Greggs wanted to expand in the airport and attract more customers, but BAA like outlets to improve the airport. Greggs, it seems, are too working class.’

A spokeswoman for Greggs confirmed they had been served notice by BAA Glasgow airport to close their shop from July 31. Greggs retail director Raymond Reynolds told the Record: ‘We loved being part of Glasgow airport. The shop has traded superbly since it opened in 2007, providing thousands of people with great quality food at great value prices. We have been in negotiation with airport management for the past six months in the hope of finding an alternative unit to trade from.'

A spokesman for Glasgow Airport confirmed Greggs would be leaving but declined to comment further.

The same happened at an airport in the North of England where Gregg's was 'over performing', effectively removing profitability from other retail food outlets in the airport. Gregg's offers passengers and staff the same prices as on the high street. Generally speaking other food outlets in airports operate using what is generally referred to as 'service station prices', because they are used to operating without competition. The problem is that usually the airports take a percentage cut from these type of outlets so the airports revenue will have reduced because of Gregg's.

Yip, two new restaurants opening this summer, an Italian and an American themed (don't say what some are thinking), with the Frankie and Benny's closing.

The circled unit in red is the current F&B restaurant which will become the American themed one (again don't say it), and my understanding is the two units in the black box are being combined into one to make the Italian restaurant.

Travelex also opened a relocated unit in the airport today, and it is my understanding that the move was required as part of the wider terminal investment unveiled by AGS last month. Boots was also recently refurbished as part of a wider refurbishment project by the retailer, to my knowledge there is still one vacant unit which is currently being worked on

survived a redundancy scenario where I work for the 3rd time. Now it looks likely I will get to cover work for 2 other teams.. Pretty please for a payrise? That would be a no and so stay on the min wage.
Live in Market Bosworth and take each day as it comes......
Well it looks like I'm off to Australia and New Zealand next year! Booked with BA from Manchester via Heathrow with a stop in Singapore and returning with Air New Zealand and BA via LAX to Heathrow. Will circumnavigate the globe and be my first trans-Pacific flight. First long haul flight with BA as well and of course Air NZ.
15 years at the same company was reached the weekend before last. Not sure how they will mark the occasion apart from the compulsory payirse to minimum wage (1st rise for 2 years; i was 15% above it back then!)
